They should be doing the same thing on the basketball side. Use your considerable resources to get a great coach instead of settling for Casey-tier candidates

I know I know, different league, different sport. But I find it crazy that one of the best coaches in the NHL gets 6.25M and Dwane Casey gets about 4M.

this is best news in leaf land in some time. best coach since since pat burns, arguably the best coach on the planet (despite only 1 cup in last 10 yrs -- but did orchestrate two gold medals including the utter defensive domination of sochi last year and a playoff appearance every season). his teams play with discipline and structure, and he is respected on a popovich level by players and coaches alike -- and makes playing/coaching in toronto much more enticing than it was yesterday.

no surprise that someone with an ego as massive as babcock took the biggest offer on the table from the biggest market in the sport. wants to prove he's the best and there's really no better place to prove it than in a city mired in mediocrity for decades.

steve stamkos, who loves babcock, is next.

The 8 year contract to me says that the leafs will still go through with a real rebuild
