Strongly disagree with both of these points. Trading him coming off a disappointing year just as he is about to start the first year of a five year deal is the best chance to maximize his trade value?

I think this year was an off year for about 3/4 of our roster. I would be shocked if he doesn't look much better next season with more familiarity with his teammates, more development and productivity from our young guys, and hopefully a smoother running offense.

Unlike most of the roster, his poor shooting, inability to create reliable offense or make those around him better, and largely inconsistent play are nothing new though. Those are constants throughout his career. On top of that, this was a terrible year defensively for him and his intensity on that end has never been a question before. That's a terrible sign of a guy counting money. I don't think you should wait for a guy to bottom out before trying to move him, basically. And with Mo around (an if, but maybe not a big if at this point) the drop off isn't even all that large or altering to the team's identity - so its not like we'd be locked into Mudiay either.

I view this year as him bottoming out. I legitimately think his value won't get any lower. The years on his deal will go down and I think the much more reasonable expectation is that his performance will improve next year. I expect we'll make the playoffs, so at least optically he will be viewed as a core part of a playoff team who had a down year and had to sit out like two months with an injury and struggled coming back into a losing situation with a large share of key contributors also playing injured or missing time to injury.

Moving Kemba and the 9th for Calderon and Mudiay would be a huge win for this team, but I wouldn't do it if it required moving another core piece like Vonleh. Our 2016 1st though? Sure

Kemba's value is as low as it's ever going to get barring injury. 3/5 of our anticipated starting five can say the exact same thing. He just turned 25 a couple weeks ago, and flashed the best play of his career before his knee injury. I think even the most pessimistic posters on this board were encouraged by Kemba's play from December until that injury. The guy was playing like an all-star before he went down, and then he came back, everyone else got injured and he had to drag Henderson, Biyombo, Taylor, and Vonleh for the final weeks of the season.

How the **** is your view of Kemba going to get that drastically skewed in those few weeks? We probably don't have to hear any of this garbage if Kemba just didn't return this season, instead of dragging this team sans MKG, Zeller, Lance, Mo, and Jefferson down the stretch, in turn dragging down his own stats.

I really wish he would have sat the entire season after going down with that injury. It turned out about exactly as I expected. When Al returned and MKG/Zeller went down it was obvious the play of all our perimeter players was going to tank. Kemba had the worst of it because he was coming off an injury himself and would be in over his head as a first option even when healthy. With his own injuries and the roster we were playing with at the end of the season taken into account he really had no chance.

Mo shot below 40% from the field for us and below 34% from deep (4% lower than his career average). I'm not sure where this idea that we got good production from him is coming from. I'm not trying to knock Mo. I firmly believe that the bulk of the blame for our guards shooting woes is due to coaching and poor roster fit. I'm not going to post all the shooting percentages again, but every guard that saw regular minutes at any point in the season shot below 40% from the field except Hendo and he was still in the low 40s. Kemba's efficiency was middling relative to the rest of our guards.

edit: I wouldn't worry about Kemba's defensive effort. I understand the concerns people have with Kemba, but in this particular aspect I would be shocked if it that turned out to be a long term issue.

I don't expect him to have a chip on his shoulder. I also don't hold out any hope whatsoever that Cliff can design a working offense with the guys on the roster. And I've got to say having "an off year for about 3/4 of our roster" is significant and unlikely to be something random.

I don't think that the draft or even a single trade can really "fix" the offense as long as the team has Cliff coaching.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Mo started off very hot and then went really cold, which brought him down to a percentage I'd expect from most point guards in this system.

SVP and Russillo did a fake lottery pick trade for current NBA player game on the show yesterday.

Russillo asked would you trade Charlotte's 9th pick for a year of Roy Hibbert and possibly resigning him.

SVP said yes because he knows he's gettin a guy who can play.

Russillo says no because he thinks Hibbert is outdated but he would understand if you did do it.

Let's just play Hibbert/Jefferson/Biyombo/Vonleh/Zeller all at the same time and see what happens. That sounds like a GREAT idea.

I would rage forever if we traded the 9th pick for Hibbert

It's not so bad idea. I think it's a big prediction, but safe one. Roy Hibbert is awesome player, he can contribute us a lot. Roy Hibbert is NBA veteran, he can improve our post. It's better to put our 9th pick on him instead of see very overrated rookie like Noah Vonleh again in Time Warner Cable Arena.

Do you want to end up like the Sacramento Kings? Because that's how you end up as the Sacramento Kings.

I'd trade Al and Roberts and maybe a protected 2016 1st for Hibbert, but hell no to attaching the 9th pick.

And roflmao at Vonleh being overrated and a reason to trade for Hibbert. He barely saw the court at all last year, but looked good when he did.

I'm trading absolutely nothing of value for Hibbert. Bismack will be better before long anyway, is way cheaper, way younger, and fits what we're doing a lot better.

Draft WCS at 9, then trade Biz and the 39th pick to the Celtics for the 16th pick. Then with the 16th pick we can take either Grant, Oubre or Hunter.

Kemba- Grant
PJ- Daniels
MKG- Lance
Zeller- Vonleh
Big Al- WCS

WCS becomes the athletic center we hoped Biz could be with more offensive upside and Grant plays 25 minutes a game as a combo guard.

Guess it depends on the value you place on the various prospects. I'd much prefer Biz + SJ or Hezonja to WCS + Grant.

There is no way that our SG rotation this season is going to just be PJ and Daniels though IMO, barring a major turnaround for both.

This is assuming Hezonja is off the board, because 85% chance he is gone.

I don't think Hairston and Daniels are any less capable then Booker would be if we drafted him. We have shooters, its up to Clifford to be able to get them on the court. Plus you would have Grant and Lance getting minutes at the 2 as well.

This would give us upgrades at Center for when Big Al leaves and then it gives us another option at PG for the Kemba doubters.

WCS is a downgrade at C and we have no second wing to MKG.

I don't line the idea, at all, of going into next season with PJ and Daniels as our 3rd and 4th wings. Lance isn't going to start with Kemba and MKG, we've already seen the result of that. He'll be our sixth man and sub for both Kemba and MKG. That meant that one of Hairston or Daniels will be starting if Gerald opts out, and I don't like that one bit.

Oh I agree there, but I think it's foolish to expect Booker to be able to play a meaningful role this year or maybe even the next.

Are you really that confident in a wing rotation that relies heavily on PJ and Daniels? I like them both, but that makes me nervous.
