Can we land Big Name FA's?
the #2 pick would really be a big help during FA pitch but can we land big time FA's? our atleast our target FA's?
http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2 ... ch-kupchak
IMO, we should not be going after for Marc Gasol, LMA, Kevin Love and DeAndre Jordan, instead we should focus on the wing
Danny Green, Wes Matthews both unrestricted (we might have good chance)
but how about big time FA's who are restricted FAs?
Jimmy Butler
Kawhi Leonard
Draymond Green

I would take my initial shot at Butler, he's the only one out of the 3 I believe theres a solid chance chi doesn't match. Leonard is gona be a spur for life and Green is way to important for GSW to lose, they'll have to pay repeater tax for another year or two but once cap hits 108mill they'll be fine. Chi owners are known to be cheap, butler and rose have tention so he's our best chance IMO, not saying 100% but better than the other 2.

Rose will probably never be what he once was that MVP season. He can't be relied upon as a top-flight franchise player. Which means Butler is more important to Chicago than ever. Don't see that happening either.

so GSW will match? I got a feeling that they won't match as they still got AI, Barnes and Lee that can play when Draymond is gone

Dude. They have a billionaire owner, are on track to go to the finals with a young core...they have amazing offensive and defensive chemistry...you just don't break up a team like that in its 1st great year. You let it ride, man.

Context, man. First of all that team was lucky as **** to win. Secondly they were old as hell. Totally different from a team where Curry is 26, Green 25, Klay 25, Barnes 22.
Dallas was just happy to be there. GSW has loftier goals.

Also, awful example bringing up Dallas, as Cuban has since stated it was a mistake to not re-sign Tyson Chandler AND then traded for him again.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
Dangle julius randle for a lotto pick to select Justise Winslow? We lose a great energy guy and player that will provide a lot of toughness for another at the important wing position. That also opens up a spot at pf for Mr. Love to come in and compliment Jahlil.
However I'm not really that sold on Love and would rather keep randle and lose a few more games with our lack of jumpshooting in the front court. Randle is going to be a rich man's Faried IMO, and his potential could be a fusion of lamar odom and blake griffin. The shadow of Lamar Odom closed out a few games ahead of griffin a couple years ago. I feel like we're going to be hyper-aware of the "discount" nature of max contracts being signed this summer with the major cap jumps in the next couple years. So if we target max guys like Love or Gasol that have their respective flaws I'm not complaining.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
I would love Danny Green. Depending on what the Spurs do in free agency, they definitely might have to let him walk. He fills some legitimate needs and even at $10-12 million a year, that's not going to be too ridiculous once the TV money kicks in. (NBA salaries are just insane any more.) There's no way restricted guys like Leonard or Butler or Green are leaving. Way, way too important. I'm also more than content to let some of our space ride and see how the young kids develop before we lock ourselves into anything. I still don't care what our record is, and I don't expect us to contend next year. Will be all about how No. 2, Randle and Clarkson continue to grow.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
Both Leanord and Butler would be amazing with our young team, but there is .0000001% chance that Spurs and Bulls would choose not to match.
I think we still need to at least try to get Gasol. I think it would be worth passing over Okafor and drafting Russel if we can sign Gasol...Not so sure about DeAndre Jordon in this scenario though. Clarkson/Russel/Kobe/Rande/Gasol would make me happy.
Alridge/Love is a different story. Are either of them good enough to bench Randle for the next 3-4 years? Could Randle successfully slide over to the 3 or is that simply just putting him in a bad spot to succeed just so we can sign one of these guys? I think we could get better value starting Randle and spending the FA money else where.
We have plenty of money to spend in FA, but the best realistic FA targets are PF/C. Right when two of the best C prospects to come along in a while are right there for us to pick, and combined with the fact that our top pick last year played in real action for about 20 minutes it creates a tricky spot for the Lakers to be in.
I think there's a decent chance of another quiet FA season for the Lakers if don't get Gasol. At least that is how I would do it. I know the Laker's success in the past is largely due to the moves we make in FA, but I honestly wouldn't mind a little bit slower approach of building through the draft if the right guy isn't going to sign with us this summer.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
The Lakers have to spend all of their remaining cap space this offseason because starting next year, every team will have cap space. The significant rise of the cap is going to give every team an opportunity at every free agent.
So this really is the last chance for the Lakers to have any real advantage over other teams from a cap standpoint. I also think our draft is going to be dictated by what we feel is going to happen in free agency. Make no mistake, the Lakers will have a pretty good idea about who they will have a realistic shot at before free agency opens. I think agents and GM's "talk," if you get my drift. If we see the Lakers take Russell, then I think Gasol is coming. If we take one of the bigs, then obviously something else will be in the works. Make no mistake though, I think the Lakers will be big spenders, and are going to totally change the make up of their roster, outside of the young players who can be part of the solution. They cannot afford another terrible or mediocre season, it risks causing further damage to the brand.
Thus, I think players like Hill, Young, Kelly, maybe Davis and Johnson will all be replaced. Davis will come back only if he agrees to a team friendly contract. Johnson will come back as a depth player. The rest of the roster is going to come through the draft, trade, or free agency.. Maybe all three.

we won't get a top tier SF free agent like green or kawhi, and probably not even tobias...itll be one of these up and coming guys/late bloomers, either demarre carroll or khris middleton...maybe wes matthews considering how he's healed.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
With us landing one of the top 2 picks, I'm sure that will give free agents like Love and Aldridge more to think about when it comes to LA. Kevin Love is absolutely a possibility.
Love, Danny Green, our draft picks and some filler signings would be a totally successful off-season in my books.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
My predictions...
DeAndre Jordan -- Stays in LA with Clippers or Dallas, I'll go Clippers.
Kevin Love -- Signs with the Lakers
LaMarcus Aldridge -- Signs with San Antonio Spurs
Jimmy Butler -- Declines to sign a long term deal, signs qualifying offer with Chicago, becomes unrestricted in 2016
Kawhi Leonard -- New York Knicks sign to offer sheet, matched in 5 seconds by the San Antonio Spurs. Stays.
Marc Gasol -- Resigns in Memphis
Greg Monroe -- Signs with New York Knicks

It would be awesome if we could make a hard push for Lamarcus Aldridge. Not only would we be a playoff team with him, he'd add another allstar that a prospective free agent would want to play with. That being said I don't see the incentive for him to leave Portland for LA.

Re: Can we land Big Name FA's?
I really don't see why we'd be signing Aldridge or Love, neither can play c and randle at this stage can not play sf, so that means we send randle to the bench until LMA or Love get claimed by father time? trade randle?
Really just seems to be a poor move, rather shore up the backcourt, move kobe the sf and get a solid 2 way guard to pair with Clarkson.

2014: Randle / Clarkson
2015: Russell / Nance
2016: Ingram / Zubac
2017: Top 3 Pick?
Fultz, Ball or Bust

this.
love or LMA to the lakers shunts the growth of randle and the #2 pick...no thank you...i would rather develop those 2 guys first over getting bounced out of the 2nd round..
landing a PF or even a C at this point makes no sense, unless its a backup C....our main concern is SF. everything else pretty much locked up...and I also see the lakers getting rondo and moving clarkson to the bench, thus limiting Kobe's minutes at SG...it would be the same rotation the lakers had with odom-bynum-gasol...but now it would be rondo-kobe-clarkson.
lakers need to look at only starting caliber SF's, preferably an elite shooter like Wes Matthews (as long as he's healed)

Disagree with you about the need for Kevin Love (not so much about the possibility), but I'm lovin' these thoughts.
Good isht.
