I refuse to believe this is the real Hawks team. They played nothing like they did in the regular season on either side of the court.
@PandaKidd
You are right, it does seem like Bud is just a regular season coach right now. They just looked completely shook.

Please resist the urge to start criticising a team who just had the best season in Atlanta's history. They're against freaking Lebron, and they're banged up. Did you see today's game? Horford left the game hurt, Korver left the game hurt, Carroll is playing on one leg, Teague and Milsap have been hurt all postseason, Thabo is out, Scott is hurt. It would have been tough to beat the Cavs in any event, but these injuries have made it impossible, and that was perfectly foreseeable in advance (which is why I said before this series started that we should all just enjoy the Hawks great season, and anything else was gravy). They're a team without a lot of time in the post-season together yet, and even if they are swept in this series they've still had a great year. They will get nothing but praise from me. They can look at how to address their shortcomings, and get healthy, in the offseason.

East Contenders
Whatever Lebron Team is on...........................everybody else. I really thought you guys had a good chance against this Clev team cause everybody on your team can score 1-5, disappointing to say the least to lose to an Irving less team and with Smith not doing what he did in gm 1.

If I were the media I would cut straight through the BS and ask the questions everyone wants to hear.
Q: Schröder, it looks to me like you are being baited into 1 vs 1 plays when your on the court. The offensive flow dies when you come in and you try to be the hero on almost every possession instead of getting your teammates more involved. Care to comment on that?
OR
Q: The ball movement doesn't look anything like it once did in January/February. Why have you guys suddenly gone into more ISO plays?
These are the questions I want being asked when our guys are at the podium.

I for one am not to down on the team. I'm proud of Carroll giving it a go, Al coming back twice, Korver willing his way into the series and teague(although he failed miserably) attempting to carry the tram on his back.
I still believe we take game 3. I was shakey about tonight's game because of the uncertainty of Carroll, but I am confident. Beyond that, with the fact that we basically have 5 hurt starters, I don't know.

Pero is completely useless and bud continues to use him. Insane.
I have noticed this through the post season. the only players we have that can break down a defense is teague and occasionally dennis when he isnt turning the ball over.
Teams can switch/stay home on shooters with ease because we lack 1 on 1 threats and it stagnates our offense. we arent moving the ball like we use to because players arent simply open like they were in the regular season.
I am extremely disappointed in our "all star front court". The only reason I had some faith in this hawks team before the post season started was because I felt like we would have a match up advantage every single night in the front court. I thought horford/millsap would step up and dominate the other team's frontcourt because I felt like there was no other frontcourt in the east that was as skilled offensively as ours.
However that have proven to be false and there are nothing more than an undersized mediocre jumpshooting front-court that we are all too familiar with.

Bud is the most disappointing part. He was praised like a God in the regular season but he has been very mediocre in the playoffs.

Stop having unrealistic expectations. The whole team is hurt pretty much. What can Bud do when guys aren't fully ready to play, or are playing sub-par? Nothing.

The system you guys have is amazing and I think Budenholzer is great, but you still need a general upgrade in talent. I know how it is to cheer for a team you like but the talent just not be there. You guys need size and talent plugged into this system. Then guys like Teague, Millsap and Carroll will truly, truly thrive. If you guys could get Marc Gasol or Jimmy Butler (probably having to let Millsap or Carroll go) that might do wonders.
Injuries definitely are not helping anything right now, but I think having a genuine star would push you over the top.

This.
In the postseason, teams are way more locked in defensively and can study what opponents will do. Post-season is about superstar talent. Because defenses become smothering, it's the superstars that can score and drill in point after point over tough defenses that gives their team the best chance to win.
Nets/Wizards only competed the way they did because of their talent (Lopez/Wall/Pierce). Hawks are a much better team than both. Cavs are on the Hawks level, it's just the Hawks lack that star talent and are unable to have that free-flowing offense when defenses are smothering, and so they struggle to score at times. Imagine if the Hawks had players like Duncan/Parker? That's what they're lacking.
As much as I love Horford and Millsap, one has to go so that you guys can get some size. I agree that Marc Gasol would be terrific for you guys.

Lets be honest though. People jumped on me after last round where I said we marched up better with their best player than without, and the numbers proved I was right.
In this series, while Love and Irving are better players, if they were playing, Thompson and Delly would be there and defensively this is a different team.
Just like it took a couple of games to figure out the Wall-less Wizards, lets see what then coaches come up with for the irving/love-less cavs.
As for Bud, I don't know how you guys aren't seeing the adjustments that he is making. He has been a great coach this off season. His only hiccup, in my eyes, is riding with Scroder(at times) and Pero when its pretty clear Muscala is a better option and Dennis has literally lost is about 3 games in this postseason.

Blatt doesn't have guys fully ready to play either (some aren't even playing at all) and yet he doesn't seeem to have trouble.

Re: PT: Hawks v.s. Cavaliers - ECF
The cavs get better defensively due to their hurt guys and we got worse. If we could score more points we would be exploiting the fact they are missing huge offensive pieces. But they have a greatly increases defensive efficiency with playing Thompson and delly more and are still getting offensive contributions from them. The Hawks are missing their best defender at the most important position in this series, their second best defender can barely walk now, thier best shooter is now hurt, their third beer defender left the game twice with leg injuries after having a dislocated finger, the forth best defender still has a screwed up shoulder and the starting point guard has a sprained ankle...
So while Irving and love are huge pieces, our defense...which we hung out hat on is limping while theirs have gotten better.

Being completely honest, we haven't been particularly impressive these entire playoffs.
Now we've run into a player simply better than anyone we have...
No excuses or caveats. We peaked in January and aren't playing well in May.
The Cleveland LeBrons are better than we are.
