Sportscrazy's Piston offseason

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Sun May 24, 2015 12:15 pm

Thought this was an interesting post and deserved a thread.

Thoughts? Anyone else want to take a stab and predict our offseason as below?

1. Minnesota - Karl-Anthony Towns
2. L.A. Lakers - Jahlil Okafor
3. Philadelphia - D'Angelo Russell
4. New York - Emmanuel Mudiay
5. Orlando - Justise Winslow
6. Sacramento - Willie Cauley-Stein
7. Denver - Mario Hezonja
8. Detroit - Kristaps Porzingis

Detroit Pistons
Re-Sign: Reggie Jackson, Joel Anthony, John Lucas III
Sign: Ed Davis, Jared Dudley
Trade: Caron Butler and Brandon Jennings for Brendan Haywood and Nick Young

C-Andre Drummond/Joel Anthony
PF-Ed Davis/Kristaps Porzingis/Anthony Tolliver
SF-Jared Dudley/Nick Young
SG-Kentavious Caldwell-Pope/Jodie Meeks
PG-Reggie Jackson/Scott Dinwiddie/John Lucas III
IR: Timothe Luwawu, Quincy Miller, Cartier Martin

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Looks like the perfect 35-47 team.

That team look awful, but given where we are and the status of a lot of RFAs, that team seems likely.

If one of Johnson, Winslow (unlikely) or Hezonja is still available and we take Porzingis someone needs to be fired.

I'm all for resigning Joel and going after Dudley & Davis, but neither of them are starting caliber on a contender.

I would be very disappointed if that was our offseason.
nick young?? He's a SG not a SF. He's also an idiot. no thanks.
Dudley is ok off the bench, but i don't want him as a starting SF.
I don't like what I've seen from Porzingis.
there's a lot not to like in there.

I wouldn't be too upset with Porzingis but if that's how the rest of the offseason would play out for Detroit it would be pretty terrible.

I would like Porzingis.

As for free agency, we may not like that outcome but to be perfectly honest it looks pretty realistic given what this team has been able to get done in free agency the last few years.

I don't see SVG going after players like Ed Davis, who is little more than a warm body on either end of the floor. And, no way they have interest in Nick Young's antics.

I don't expect a blockbuster free agency period. There's nothing new to say there, the players we would desire are all RFA's.

That was the only part of that projection that wasn't worth mocking!

Seriously though, I would be fine if we draft Zinger. He wouldn't be my first choice, but I don't have the luxury of interviewing him and running him in personal workout either.

The idea of this makes me so sick to my stomach that I actually decided to post for once.

Given what we know about SVG, Dudley is a real possibility. I do hope we resign Anthony as well, he fit perfectly.

Nick Young is not coming here, unless SVG just wants someone to murder to the press. Ed Davis isn't likely either. Can't see any scenario where JL3 starts with the team.

We could draft Porzingis, though. This has us passing up Stanley Johnson for him, which would bother me, but I could see it.

This Porzingis screams bust to me!! Also, I don't want Swaggy P anywhere near the Stones.

I might be in the minority but I would rather take Myles Turner than Porzingis..

Praying for Tobias/Draymond, which is unlikely

I like about all of the top 15 players over Porzingis. He looks like Darko 2.0.

Yes, Porzingis is Darko 2.0, because everyone knows all tall Europeans with funky names are exactly the same.

Porzingis will be a bust like Darko. A career backup or marginal starter on bottom feeding teams. He can't guard and is soft as butter. He can't play post offense to save his life. He is below average BBIQ (see Darko). Pistons need someone who will contribute instead of waiting 3-4 years to see if this dude can even play.
