Charlotte Hornets Big Board #1

Post#1 » by JDR720 » Mon May 25, 2015 1:04 pm

Who should be the #1 player on the Hornets Big Board? If you pick "Other" make a post saying what other player you picked.

Each Big Board will be open for roughly 1 day, when one ends another will start until we get to 30.

I chose Russell because it is about what is best for the Hornets right. The talent at the top is about equal and we are loaded at young bigs and need a SG who can create offense.

Russell. No question. Best player in the draft and ideal fit for us. No reason to pick anyone else.

Went Towns. All things considered equal, you go with size.

Towns, although I would give a hard look to Russell and Okafor. Towns just looks too tough to pass up. Still think Okafor will work hard and become a better overall player than some people think. I am wary of his comparisons to Big Al (defensively).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I went with Towns, he has the the best combination of size, skill, athleticism, and upside.

Went with Russell. I think he's the best player in the draft but I understand why bigs like Towns and Okafor will be picked ahead of him because they are a rarity. I still like Russell more. Towns will be #2 for me.

With the way the NBA is going, Towns is the prototypical center that you need to compete. With the pace and space and needing a 4 that can step out on the wings and tend to defend out there you need an excellent rim protector and rebounder. Towns will be wonderful at that, at worst. And if he can continue to stretch out his mid range game he will be one hell of a two way player at the most important position on defense.

Towns rather easily

If the Hornets think the same way as you guys I am glad we did not get the #1 pick. I would have hated to watch us draft Towns. The fact that the "no more project bigs" guy LP picks him is a surprise.

Towns isn't a project. He's young so he obviously has some developing to do, but the same can be said of all 1 and dones regardless of who they are. Any big that plays as well as he does on defense and converts his free throws at a 80% rate is far from a project. He reminds me a lot of Alonzo Mourning actually.
