How much you wanna give Green SC?

You talking 3 or 4 years?

Ideally he would opt in on his player option, we would trade basically nothing for him and have a year to see how it goes. Too difficult to talk money with the cap going up, easy when it comes to max guys but that's about it.

So its $9 mil for a one year "let's see how it goes" kinda deal?

I'd rather give Aminu $9 mil and a 3 year deal if it comes to that.

Green isn't terrible but a 1 year thing isn't what I'd want. We're trying to build something over the next few years - don't want any 1 & dones here

Draft Johnson
Sign Harris
Sign Aminu

Drummond/2nd rounder/Anthony
Harris/Tolliver/Aminu
Johnson/Aminu/Harris
KCP/Meeks/Dinwiddie
RJ/BJ/Dinwiddie

Versatile forwards, multiple skill sets, different looks

Drummond is the Sun, everything revolves around him

No Jeff Green please. OKC, Boston and Memphis all realized that he looks fantastic on paper and that's about it. One out of every 18 games he'll look good before he disappears again. He hurt the Grizz every time he stepped on the floor.

TOBIAS HARRIS...now there's an idea. He hated Skiles and Skiles is gonna coach Orlando. He'll be listening to other teams. Unfortunately, he's from New York and has always talked about playing for the Knicks.

Why would Harris go there to be the clear second fiddle to Melo?

Yeah the spotlight burns brighter in NY but as the clear second banana you're more likely to be the villain than the hero...

Here's he's far more likely to be the hero. Teams with Dre & RJ, coached by SVG, likely makes the playoffs...

Unless he's got some serious bonus kicker in his endorsement deals the $ is the same...

I think Harris is very get-able. He'd fit with our style. Analytics support him too.

Can't Orlando match Harris? And you could be looking at a max deal for him.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I'd like Harris, but he has said in the past that he'd like to play in NY.

No, it is about the percentage he shoots. Teams look into this kind of stuff these days and realize who can hurt you making shots and who you can sag off of. Green obviously falls into the latter category. Something he was supposed to do for Memphis was spread the floor and that didn't work out at all. Green isn't some great athlete that will have much of a matchup advantage against most other power forwards either. He's average in that area.

There have been rumors that Harris has major kickers in his endorsement deal for New York or LA. There's been reports that conflict that, but it's pretty much been an open secret for over a year that he plans on signing with the Knicks and Orlando isn't exactly thrilled with the idea of matching him as he's not ideal for their build around Payton/Oladipo/Gordon/Vucevic.

Or they realize he shoots well when left open. I love how you guys are shredding Green yet want to sign a player with no defense to a max deal (Harris), draft a guy with no offense (Johnson) and sign another guy with no offense (Aminu).

Which should be able to be said about any player, but there aren't really any statistics to support that idea available to us. For what it's worth I don't think I have pushed for the Pistons to sign Harris (not likely at all anyways in my opinion) and certainly not Aminu. I'm not really sure what to expect from this free agent period, but bad fits like Green should be avoided regardless.

I wouldn't be upset with drafting Johnson or just about any of the realistic possibilities for Detroit. Lots of these prospects do develop more to their games in the NBA. I think that's something a lot of people seem to disregard. Especially with a guy like Johnson. He's not even 19 yet.

I didn't shred you over Green - I said I didn't want any 1 & dones here.

IF we could get him for 3 years I wouldn't complain, depending on price. He's capable.

According to my learnered friends here Harris is basically a Knick in waiting so there goes that idea.

Either we sign Middleton or wait until another team signs him to the max, then with Milwaukee wanting to match, we accept Ilysova for a hill o' beans. Nailed it.

So.

Drummond in the middle. Need to pick up a decent backup somewhere. Could be what's his name Joel Anthony. Good second round pick possibly. Mid to low level FA signing. Smaller deal trade pickup. Whatever, we're more or less set there.

Between Ilyasova and Tolliver I think we've got a great 4.

Wings.. KCP and..? Meeks I guess, when he's on is good offense.

Point.. Jackson. Jennings (if we don't move him). Dinwiddie. All set.

*****

Really, really hoping for Hezonja in the draft. Really hoping for a stud veteran 3-shooting wing-defending FA signing -- Danny Green.

Goodness.

C: Drummond - - - - - whoever
PF: Ilyasova/Tolliver
SF/SG: Danny Green, Hezonja, KCP, Jennings, Meeks
PG: Reggie - - - - - Jennings, Dinwiddie

That's a cool team
