I think some of you guys are not realizing the big picture here.

The choice isn't between pierce and signing danny green, khris middleton, AFA, wes matthews, etc.

It's not between pierce and signing some second-round athletic phenomenon two-way player in the mold of kawhi leonard.

It's not between pierce and signing some 3 and D euro, hell, 3 and D anything.

And that's cause the kind of guy we want doesn't exist for us at our price. We don't have the money or the assets. Any wing that we do get will be severely flawed, and paul pierce is the best choice of them all, no matter his age. He's obviously not ideal but we don't get to have ideal, doc rivers saw to that. The choice is between having paul pierce, someone worse, or having jack monkey squat.

You can break it down further if you want: "hmm, would i rather have paul pierce clowning fools in the playoffs, hitting clutch shots, actually punishing teams when they try to switch their SF on cp3? or would i rather have jamal crawford shooting 30% and destroying our team on both ends?"

Beggars can't be choosers. And signing PP doesn't prevent us from signing that magical athletic 2-way glue guy wing we have been craving for years because, again, that guy doesn't exist for us. We don't have the resources to get what we want. We don't get to have nice things. We get the hand me downs from the dumpster bin. If pierce signed here for one last hurrah we should be ecstatic that we might actually have a chance to save doc rivers from his own stupidity.

Like everyone else I'm sure I'd much rather have a younger option with fresher legs. It ain't gonna happen. Pierce is as good as we can hope for. The team has the MMLE to work wtih. The can pay about $3.5 mil which is a drop in the bucket less than what Pierce is making this year...a drop in the bucket for someone who has made over $200 million that is.

Maybe the Clips can offer a 2 or 3 year deal to entice him. He will probably remain at the level he is now until age 40

nick basically hits the nail on the head. there are not a lot of options. jamal played himself out of being trade bait for much. Austin and hawes about the same. whoever they get will be someone who will not be a night in night out game changer. I think you have to look at hudson and Hamilton this summer and see if they can help. someone will come out of the woodwork hopefully.

I think Hudson and Hamilton showed they can play. Perhaps see if Hamilton can win the starting 3 spot if the Clips can't sign Pierce. Hamilton can shoot and has the length to be a true small forward at the defensive end

I agree. I would rater try that than give up jamal for not much. at least we know what he can do. he can be a big help during the regular season. I feel the same about matt. I would hate to see him go.

Hamilton has always had issues with defensive consistency.

Hudson seems okay, but he'll be 31 when next season starts, he'll likely have to play his way onto the team in training camp unless his contract has to be guaranteed before that

If Pierce is opting out it is because he wants to play his final year at home in LA. That also means I doubt the money means much and he would sign for the veteran's minimum. As a result, he gives us another SF and small ball 4 next to DJ.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.
