Isn't he an awful defender? To the point where Phoenix a team that doesn't give a crap about defense limited his playing time this year? Spo would chain him to the bench.

Gerald Green has size, athleticism, can shoot the three, is under 30-years old, and probably within the HEAT's bargain basement price range of affordability.

He is a poor defender. Yup, Phoenix significantly reduced his minutes this season largely due to his defense, but also due to his general low IQ play. He has amazing physical talent and has good shooting ability. But he can be a chucker and throws up some ill-advised shots every game.

He is not the savior some on this thread are making him out to be. He does have some nice highlights though. With that said, he may just be one of the best option in our price range, and would definitely be a welcomed addition. I think in a situation with us, where he would be clearly surrounded by superior players that are higher on the offensive totem pole than him, that he'd more willingly take on the complementary shooter role

I just hope some aren't thinking he'd be better for this team than Deng. Deng may not be the natural 3-point shooter we desire, and he may not be the prolific scorer that some were unreasonably expecting, but he is BY FAR our best perimeter defender, and that is truly vital. We don't beat the Cavs this season without him on LeBron. And look at all the teams that made it far in the playoffs, they all had a high level wing defender that they can throw on the opposing teams best perimeter player. We need to keep Deng (especially considering the cap situation)

Gerald Green is a bonehead, thats why. However when you tell boneheads what to do in a limited capacity, they dont look as bad

Look at Rio, look at how dumb this guy looked with us this year. Most of that was masked when he was made just a spot up shooter and told to gtfo. JR smith was a fool on the knicks. Then told to gtfo and just shoot 3s and look at him now, doesnt look as bad now at all

Gerlad Green when Dragic ran the show looked decent. Just shooting 3s and run the fast break. He is not a good dribbler and when it comes to defense he has potential, i dont think he has ever been on a good defensive team with defensive principles like us

He has length, he just needs discipline and he can do that, he is humble enough I think.

We need a guy who is not afraid to shoot and has athleticism... What other option is there in free agency? Thats affordable? Our own rookies dont hold that much promise. Ennis is decent but so raw.... So so raw and we dont have time to wait for his development. Booker is less raw than Ennis to me, cause he knows how to shoot. Ennis is not some prolific scorer off the bench, decent defensively tho. But we need more

Our bench and having unreliable shooters is why we sucked so hard this year besides injuries. Every time Hassan sat we sucked... We need a back up Center too, Birdman will NOT do

We're the Miami Heat we will always be defense first. We're not planning on being the fastest team in the league... Just faster than we were last year when we were one of the slowest teams in the league.

Where did we rank last season on defense because we were bad, and thats before Bosh went down. Remember we were getting blown out by double digits in multiple games.

We were very bad... It got better when Hassan came but worse again when Bosh went down.

This team needs size, athleticism and more youth but not rookies. Need some fresh air. We got blown out due to bad defense and no one scoring outside of Wade and Bosh.

No one is calling a Gerald Green a star..We need a wade backup though, and we have the locker room leadership to keep him in check.

Worthwhile read by Zach Lowe on Grantland. Interesting to consider our potential roster makeup in this conversation. Specifically, it goes in depth in discussing the potential value of a playmaking PF like McBob

Jon (DAL) [via mobile]
What would be a good situation for Gerald Green to finally maximize his potential?

Amin (3:39 PM)
somewhere with a strong org where he gets that he's not an every night, 35 min guy. Miami, San Antonio....somewhere like that

I'm sure Goran would love to have his running mate by his side again.

To me Marco Belinelli and Gerald Green were always the best options at the wing this summer, Belinelli was great in the playoffs and might be too expensive, green is risker but he's our best at a productive wing that fits here.

The guy in my Sig could be a nice combination of both of them.

This keeps getting overlooked but when hassan sat and it went south, its because birdman was paired next to midgets at PF and his minutes were much higher than they would have been had our PF and backup PF not been injured. Birdy really wasn't that bad. He just looked bad when his running mate wasn't Chris Bosh.

Next year's rotation may look like this; Bosh/Whiteside, then Bosh/Bird, then a little bit of Mcbob/Bird, then Mcbob/Bosh, and then finish with Bosh/White. Bird won't be seeing that many minutes and that's when he's at his best.

I really wouldn't care if he's just playing sf in a limited role. He and be as didn't look their best in heavy roles. Limited though? I think they'd be alright.

No. We have to be down to 15 or less by the end of preseason, iirc.
