if they can get Pau for that kind of a deal. Then why not just use the cap space to sign his brother. If we get Pau. I would 100% believe Marc would sign to play with his big brother.

then just pick Mudiay with the 4th pick.

- Calderon is a bum that will keep getting injured
- a team that starts Galloway is not a playoff team
- Pau is too slow to play PF and too fragile to make it through a season playing starter minutes

That team is 8th seed at best. And still not a single leader.

that team gets at a top 4 seed easily in my opinion. Pau and Marc were got damn all-stars last year and calderon as a backup guard is not a problem at all.

Pau played PF this year with Noah at Center and did just fine.

I would go as far to say that team becomes the #2 team right behind the cavs.

that team has great perimeter defense. Marc is arguably the best defensive center. The post up game would be ridiculous and calderon and gasol are good leaders and winners. Pau is a winner that knows the triangle perfectly!

Melo would be the closer which you need. I think your out of your mind if you think that team is an 8th seed at best. thats a 50 win team easily in the east.

I agree that we would be a top 4 team, but I also think that Pau is NOT a 4. He played 2/3 of his minutes last year at C ( http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... lpa01.html ) and when he was playing PF he was getting beat off the dribble. The Bulls were able to help mitigate his **** defense because of the great perimeter defense they played (having Noah contain absolutely everything, everywhere on the court was great; Rose was a very good defender; Butler was Butler; and Dunleavy was even solid for them).

The team you constructed has one very good perimeter defender (Galloway), an average to above average defender (Melo), an elite defender (Gasol - he's a different kind of defender though than Noah...which isn't necessarily a good thing, if you're trying to play the Gasols together), a question mark with potential to be a very good defender (Mudiay), one of the worst defenders in the league (Calderon), and then question marks for the rest of the roster. We'd need an athletic 4 as a backup to start and another very good to great perimeter defender if we wanted to be a contending team in the future.

we would have about 3 million extra. Trading hardaway and lottery protected 2018 would minus 6 million off our cap. That would leave 21 million. Than Marc's 18.5 minus the cap hold would leave 3 million for a vet 4 man.

Than you would have a the room exception to also add another veteran piece.

Plus you would have young athletic guys like Mudiay, Thanasis, and Early which you would hope to become better defenders and help out as well.

Also Knickstape regarding Pau guarding 4's. While he will struggle from time to time I think it would be manageable because Pau isn't a 35 minute a night guy and could still play almost half of his minutes at the 5 spelling Marc.

Also advantage which no one seems to talk about is the knicks clear advantage. Teams use to put there best defender on Pau...because Noah was no threat to score. How would teams defend Marc and Pau down low with there back to the basket games and passing abilities. With shooters like Calderon and Melo on the perimeter?

Not only would that team win the division. Toronto, Nets, and Celtics would not even come close to the talent of that team. That team would have a chance to retool in a year as well. You could move calderon and pau (opt out) and free up another max spot) the following year for Durant if you wanted.

Pau isn't only bad at defending 4s, he's a bad defender in general. He's lost a huge amount of quickness since his Lakers days. We would need an athletic 4 to play next to him whenever he's on the court basically (except when he's with Marc because we can't play 6 on 5).

Yeah, we'd be a good scoring team...but I still think the defense is a huge question mark

I said we would be top 4, but going further than that with the lineup you suggested is going to be difficult.
