Well the idea is that you still draft a big at 2 and trade with the team that drafts Mudiay for you. The problem I see with this is that, assuming the sixers go with Russell, the deal basically has to be with the Knicks cause you can't gamble that they'll let mudiay get passed them. The Knicks really don't have any attractive enough assets to make that swap worth while.

Who is Moke Hamilton? I highly doubt the Lakers will draft Mudiay unless he really impresses and is a can't miss player. When Mitch was on the radio talking to Colin he pretty much said the Lakers were taking a big

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
i dont get the concerns with okafor, defense is a lot more about effort, coaching and the system in place than anything else. literally any big man in the league could be made into a competent defensive player given the tools to succeed, whats a lot harder to find and more valuable is a big man with offensive skills good enough to build around.

Not only is that a terrible source but it's a partial quote of what was:
For me, the wildcard in all of this is the Los Angeles Lakers. There are still a fair amount of people out there who believe that the Lakers could walk away from the draft with Emmanuel Mudiay when it’s all said and done. If they opted to trade back to make that happen, draft boards will be blown up. At this point, though, until I hear something concrete, I will continue to have my top two be the big men whose names we have been calling for several months now.

Clarkson is a 6'5 combo guard. Why draft one of the guards who is the same size. And will be paid 4 times what JC is making. 800 plus K for JC vs 4 plus million for the 2nd over all pick. We do not have a center and big men are hard to come by. Draft Okafor and have the front line of Okafor, Randle and guard in Clarkson. I would say a nice start to the rebuild.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
I don't get why people feel Okafor and Randle are a 'bad fit' offensively. I think they'll be terrific. Okafor has an nba ready post game with both hands and is already an adept passer out of the double team. Randle had both a face up game either shooting midrange or driving strong, is a beast on the weak side offensive glass, and also an above average passer. I expect a lot of Pau and Odom, or MGasol and ZRandolph type interior work to occur.
I get that they'll have defensive shortcomings in help and rim protection but that partially what schemes and funneling are for, helping team D. I'm much much more concerned with perimeter D and want defensively skilled wings and guards.
I say draft Okafor #2 and then use the other two picks on a defensive minded PG and a defensive minded SF. Or try to get the SF in FA (Carroll?).
Last, LA could also invest in a defensive minded big if they wanted, like Asik or Hibbert, or trade for Noah (who seems available), and buy one year of learning time for Okafor. There are options.

I would not be surprise if Minny went Okafor. Why because Minny needs to keep the fan base?
Having a Offensive flashy team of Wiggins, Lavine & Okafor will sell more tickets and excitement
than Wiggins, Lavine & Towns.
They probably know they are going to win a title soon but could be a very good team on the court
and might want the flash over defense.

Minny will take okafor. Which means we will be taking snapshot pictures with Towns holding up a LAKER jersey with Mitch in the press conference room.

If the front office truly liked someone like Russell or Mudiay more than whichever big is available at two, I think Jordan Clarkson would be and should be irrelevant to the decision of drafting them.

I don't want to sound like I'm facilating, but if they see Mudiay as the better, more impactful player, they should take him without too much hesitation.
I've never seen Mudiay play. I haven't studied him the way I've studied other guys, so I have no earthly idea whether he's the real deal.
From what I have seen, he looks and reminds me of Gary Payton. He looks like a go getter, very, very aggressive.
I don't know nearly enough to suggest the Lakers take Okafor over him, but they damn sure better not take Russell over Okafor.
Mudiay, on the surface, coming from a very pedestrian observer, appears to be the type of player I love. Big, oversized PG, very physical, great passer, top-notch defender, and a really, really confident.
I could see it happening. Not sure I'd be too mad about it either.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
These Mudiay rumors came out a while back, before the lottery. I think they were based on the assumption we'd likely be drafting 4th at best.
I find it hard to believe, anyone wants Mudiay with the 2nd pick.

Not advocating either way, but why?
In retrospect, which guy would you rather have on your team for thirteen years -- Gary Payton (Mudiay) or Brad Daugherty (Okafor)?

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
A swayed opinion of Mudiay was formed for me when I heard an interview with Metta World Peace who played with him in China. They asked Metta how was he as a player and Metta just said "he's alright, very athletic".....Bottom line Metta didn't rave about him, that told me all I needed to know. If a NBA pro can't gush over you then that says your game is basic. The only footage of him is just dunks, but hell that's all you get with all these prospects. Exum was like that....then we found he couldn't shoot.ALL HAIL wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:Drafting Mudiay would be a major mistake, can't shoot...gonna need time to get that down.
