The Orlando Magic hired Scott Skiles as their new coach this afternoon, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.

Team officials hope their fiery former point guard will instill a hard-nosed identity, jump-start their rebuilding process and energize their fan base.

Skiles compiled a 443-433 regular-season record and reached the playoffs six times during prior head-coaching stints with the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks. He earned a reputation as a no-nonsense coach whose teams played tough, energetic defense

I'm glad it finally happened! I was on the fence for a while about him, but I've moved on board recently. I mean at the very least our defense is going to be great and we should be a playoff team again. Hopefully he has a successful career coaching here and isn't just around for 3 years.
