I read it as Don wants his boy to go #1 and the game is "we're not giving you anything to compare"

It's interesting because, from what I understand, the Lakers put a lot of stock in workouts. I doubt this changes anything at this point, but I wonder what the motivation is.

More interesting to me is how Okafor's camp is going to respond. Is Okafor going to skip all workouts as well?
Lol ...Sounds like he doesn't want to go #1!
Put it this way if the Lakers had the #1 ... He would be doing everything needed to be selected as would Okafor, Russel, Mudiah , Metta and everyone else!

It's just as Woj predicted. Towns is trying to fall to LAL by withholding workouts.

I wonder if any of the top 3 will do workouts.

Every single top prospect wants to be drafted by us, no doubt about it
It's just the PERFECT situation for everyone....city of LA , the Lakers, roster situation(basically having needs at every spot possible, which means the guy we draft gets to be an integral piece from day one ), Kobe retiring soon which means the reigns of the franchise could be handed to the one we draft, in a matter of months

I get why he wouldn't want to workout for Minny, but why not with LA?

i think its as simple as Towns knows he'll go top 2 no matter what and that he really doesn't care if its 1 or 2. If he falls to 2, great he's with the lakers. If he goes one, great too going off of what he said:
“It would be a blessing and an honor to even have a chance to play for Minnesota and be able to have the chance to play for a great organization and learn from a great mentor like Kevin Garnett,” Towns told SNY.tv at the lottery.
i don't think this is a guy that wants to avoid going to minny, i think this is a guy that knows he'll go one or two and is fine with either one.

Re: NBA Draft Lottery 2015 | Lakers Pick #2, #27 and #34
I'm not gonna head trip on D-Mac's comments about Towns or Okafor, to me it's seems as if both camps are about to put in play their plans for manipulating draft spots.
Look we can pick needles at these guys game from here to draft night, either way you can't make a mistake. Whoever we draft, all we have to do is utilize the skills of those guys to help the team in it's best way.
I think guys are getting a little overzealous on every bit of information that comes out, Towns not doing workouts for either shouldn't be a surprise...you only workout for a team to improve your draft position if that team has a high pick. Towns is already slotted high as you can get, same for Okafor but I haven't heard if he's not going to workout either.

True, but what happens when Okafor does the same. If both guys execute their plans to precision, the result is that Minnesota gets antsy on who to take. All Mitch and Jim have to do is sit back, these interviews will really give both teams their impressions of these guys desire to play for them.crazyeights wrote:EArl wrote:Not sure what towns endgame is.

If they send any signal that they're not fully accepting of play in either city, well the rule is don't draft a player who's already showing a disconnect.

http://zagsblog.com/articles/towns-will-interview-with-wolves-lakers-wont-do-workouts/"“I’ve been doing this for 11 or 12 years pre-draft,” MacLean, the leading scorer in Pac-12 and UCLA history, previously told SNY.tv. “Because I had a lot of top 10 picks and a lot of really good players, I’m not really impressed or blown away. I had Towns all last week and I was blown away. Blown away.
“A kid that big but shoots it that well but handles it that well and understands the game, that’s coachable, that wants to get better, wants to be great, I was blown away by him last week.
“Am I a little biased? I’ve known Jahlil because I’ve done Adidas nations forever. Jahlil’s a great kid and a great player but I just think he doesn’t have as much to his game as Karl has.”
If Okafor comes here and works out, I want Okafor. There's something I find really shady about a potential #1 pick not wanting to work out with the first or second team drafting. Makes me question what he has inside him.
That would be like me going to an interview with my dream job but not wanting to show them any of my work.

Until this, I was solidly in the camp that said Towns > Okafor for the Lakers. Now? Not so much. If the kid's head is that big coming in, I'm not so sure he's what we'd need in a post-Kobe, very young, locker room.
Yeah, Okafor's looking better and better.

I hope they trade them to move up so we can get Anderson. The right big and Anderson = Damn Good Draft.
(Actually, if they can package Swaggy, Kelly, 27 and 34 to move up, that would be even better! Addition by subtraction.)

The flip side is, maybe there's something to hide... Like if you see Towns and Okafor side by side, Towns doesn't look so good. If his handler knows them as well as he says, maybe he knows that and is protecting his potential #1 spot.
Also, it could be because everyone already knows the ties between the Minni FO and Okafor... So Towns figures, if he doesn't workout, it just strengthens the likelihood they take Okafor and he goes to LA.

What do you guys think about Christmas-Harvey-Hawkins-Alexander, prospects for the 2nd round that we could get by keeping our pick or buying another 2nd rounder.

I would think we would be too much like Denver, who actually went Too young. Yes, we need youth. We got some last year, we'll get some this year. But, no more than 2 please. Then go get a couple of good youngish but experienced vet free agents. Chandler and Carroll come to mind.
Too much youth can be as bad as too much age. You want balance in all things.
