Re: Luka Doncic
Well, this was the first Doncic game I watched. Probably not the best one to draw first impressions. He was very meh, but I liked his defense and he looks to be very unselfish. Guy seems to be a point guard, at least right now.

Re: Luka Doncic
Yeah, this wasn't his best game, too many turnovers. Sometimes he takes too many risks, but he is young, he will learn. Anyway, he led the team in rebounds and assists. Right now, I think the best U-18 Real Madrid player is Yusta, he is more mature, his game is more developed. But as a prospect, my money on Doncic, no doubt about it.
And I agree with you, his abilities fit perfectly in the PG position.
PS: I'm the guy in a white t-shirt sitting on the fifth row behind Crvena Zvedza's bench, next to the stairs.
  Nikola Vucevic was there today.

Re: Luka Doncic
Some updates on Doncic status:
1) He is not going to play with his national team this summer to get ready for Real Madrid pro team preseason.
2) He has played his first 11 playoff minutes . Some of them meaningful, in the second quarter with the team only leading by 7. We knew he had the talent to compete at that level, but in this game he showed us he can play with playoff intensity and even fight on the post for rebounds (ask Walter Tavares and his 7'3" about it
). He has showed he isn't scared of physical contact with the pros. Most of the minutes he played the PG, with Sergio Rodríguez at the SG. We know he can run a professional offense now, too.
In my opinion, this two "news" let us know coach Laso trust him a lot, and he is going to be a member of the pro team next year.
PS: Here you have the only offensive highlight I have found on the internet of his first playoff game.

I worry about his lack of footspeed, he is not athletic, but might be so skilled that it won`t matter. For Europe atleast. Has some Bodiroga in him with how smart and poised he is.

He is able to leave 6'2" pro PGs behind, while he is 16 and 3 months and at least 6'6". I'm not concerned about his legs at all.

See? He is tough even with the pros. Playoff intensity at 16
He can learn a lot from Nocioni (I love his reaction in this video
) in this field. Next preseason is going to be so valuable for him...

The one who was already almost behind him when Doncic got the ball?
I mean he's great and all, and obviously an interesting prospect, but your hype is... a little bit
He just doesn't have the quickness of guys like Ruio, Fernandez or Ginobili, and will never have. All tha doesn't mean he won;t be a good pro player, even maybe at NBA level.

Come on man... Did you watch Fernández or Ginobili play (or run) at 16? I don't. I remember a 18 y.o. Fernández, but not 16. Be fair, don't make that comparation. Anyway, Doncic's body is more Nocioni than any of those players you mention, he is a bigger, stronger player.

Hes 16 and around 6'6. He can probably still grow and become a forward with playmaking skills.

Yes I have seen Fernandez at 16. Even than you could have noticed his athletic supiriority on other players.
I've also been watching many players from being 14,15,16 year old prospects to pro basketball players. Some developed many skills since they were 16, some grown 1-4 inches, but NONE of them improved from average athlete to high-level (by euro standards) athlete.
He won't be quick, he won't be "above the rim" player!
All of that does'nt say he won't be a great player. More-over if he'll still grow and become a "point-forward" as was mentioned above me.

Re: Luka Doncic
I've never said he will be the best Carter or Wade. I'm just saying some of you underrate his athletic abilities IMO and that I'm not concerned at all about his legs. He dominates older players physically, he can compete with pros and when he plays kids his age, man... this is what he did with his national team on a friendly tournament: 34'2 points, 8'2 rebounds, (assists weren't counted in the tournament), 78'7% on 2 pointers, and 48 PIR in just 23 minutes per game.
You say he could be a good professional in the future, but I think he would already if he was owned by a smaller budget team.
Today, in his second playoff game, he has defended Kyle Kuric (Gran Canaria's best scorer) when Real Madrid was down 7. Coach Laso knows him much better than we do. Laso knows if you coach Real Madrid, you can't finish second. And still he trust this kid to defend the opponent's best scorer. So Laso thinks there's nothing wrong about his legs too.
Anyway, time will tell...

On the other hand i've never seen a kid that age with such dominance of the whole game, it's like watching a teen Larry Bird.
This is who he reminded me of as well. Even his movement is kind of similar. Naturally, there is very little chance he'll become the next Bird, but he looks promising. Will probably end up around 6'6 or 6'8, so will be a SG or SF.

Re: Luka Doncic
Dončič won't be an elite athlete, but not a bad athlete either, compared to his athleticism at the age of 14, 15 he has made a noticable improvement, he has strong upper body for a guy his age, that adds some pounds, while needless to say playing against 2-3 years older guys doesn't make him look any more explosive than he is, the difference was even bigger 2 years ago. If he added 4-6 inches of vert that wouldn't change all that much from game perspective, even if most casual fans would disagree, however anyone that ever worked on his vertical knows that's not really that much of a deal, especialy when comparing vert to the younger age.
Dončič is working with Mike Penberthy on his shot these days. And judging from this picture with Korver he might be near 6'7 by now

Real Madrid played his first preseason game vs Khimkhi yesterday. They only featured 3 players from the 1st team, Doncic, Trey Thompkins and Jaycee Carroll while Khimki had an almost full roster, missing mainly Kopponen, Dragic and Monia.
Luka played 35 minutes, mostly at PG, and posted 9 pt 5 rb 9 as 3 st
His shooting was inconsistent but had some superb passes and a couple of very good baskets, one of them at the post, yep a 16 years old PG posting up and schooling a veteran pro player.

This evening at 20:00 CET (14:00 ET) they play vs Unicaja
If anyone is interested i guess the game will be streamed here http://101tv.es/directo.aspx and here http://www.realmadrid.com/baloncesto no idea if it's geoblocked.
