Re: Off Topic VII
Are the Independence showing their games live on Youtube? Or replay? I might try to go next time they have a Friday game at Winthrop. I work in Fort Mill.
You'll forgive me if I don't love Suarez as much as you. He **** bit Ivanovich. He should have been sent off with a red. Then that game had 7 minutes of stoppage time (should have been no more than 5) and of course LPool scored in the 7th min.) Assuming Sterling leaves this summer, things definitely don't look good for the future. Pretty sad when you see wiretap headlines like "Benteke Should Aim Higher Than Liverpool". OUCH. Thats a bit crazy. Bentenke isn't starting for any elite clubs unless they just have nothing up front.
Speaking of Benteke, watching the FA cup now. Just hoping Villa can make a game of it. I loathe Arsenal. Only team in Europe I hate more than Arsenal is Barcelona.
And agreed, Pirlo is amazing to watch.

Anyone watching Texas Rising on the History Channel? I just started it. Lots of interesting actors - Bill Paxton, Ray Liotta, Brendan Fraser, Crispin Glover, Kris Kristofferson, Chad Michael Murray, Christopher McDonald, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Cyntia Addai-Robinson (from Spartacus!!!!)

Every USL game is on youtube for free in great quality. It is awesome. USL (the third level of the American soccer pyramid, the league the Independence play in) is on the rise. I'm pretty sure either 6 or 7 USL teams beat NASL (second division of the American soccer pyramid) in the most recent round of the US Open Cup. The Independence were one of those teams with their win over the Railhawks. Completely embarrassing for the NASL. NASL is in trouble. A lot of their funding comes from Traffic Sports, who is in big trouble with all this FIFA stuff that's happening. They like control CONCACAF and also help fund NASL. So NASL is in big trouble, if something happens with Traffic Sports they could lose their funding.
Ahhh wouldn't you just know it
Benteke is a quality striker with good finishing but he's not the player we need. We need a pacey forward. I want Walcott or Lacazette, dammit
E: I'm not worried about losing Sterling because he's not even that good of a player. I was crushed when Suarez left because he is absolute world class. Sterling isn't even that good. Someone is gonna grossly overpay and we can find a much better replacement. Like... Walcott

Re: Off Topic VII
I love the onion (fake news).
With all the talk about the corruption in FIFA and Sepp Blatters' re-election the onion released a short article mocking the situation. Within the article FIFA had "suddenly" decided to host a world cup in America. Probably my favorite quote from the article was attributed to Sepp Blatter as he said "With world-class venues in cities across the country and a rapidly growing passion for the sport, the U.S. is the perfect choice—really the only choice—for this summer’s tournament".
Hilarious. I love the onion.
The article isn't very long (literally being only like a paragraph) but it's worth a chuckle, and can be read here:

For those who play ball a good bit, what are the best kind of socks out there?
I've never had an issue with getting blisters from playing basketball or any sport until recently. Now, all of a sudden I can't play 20 minutes of hoops without getting one on top of the one I got from the previous day playing.

I can't see tweets, so this may have already been said, but it's great news to hear that Cam Newton and the panthers are near a long term deal!
I disagree, Benteke had a horrid start to the season under the previous manager and was consistently banged up, but he was a machine at the end of the year. I could easily see Benteke starting for the likes of Dortmund, Liverpool, AC Milan, and ect.

Yes folks, clearly the most pressing sports issue today is whether or not there are virgins in the NBA.
What the absolute **** RealGM.

Nothing but Smartwool touches my feet. I'm not playing ball but they get plenty wet and/or sweaty and They never blister.
I guess the moral is I wouldn't really recommend wool for playing basketball, but I would definitely stay away from 100% or even mostly cotton. Things like Dri-Fit and/or polyester would be best.
Maybe try those Nike Hyperelites or some of the more expensive Jordan socks

I always thought the NASL's downfall would be that their model franchises would be poached by MLS. (Minnesota and Atlanta have already been granted MLS franchises and San Antonio has MLS aspirations.) The Cosmos are really the only team in NASL that I would say with some conviction is better than every USL team; and ironically the only franchise that has zero shot at the big time. I generally think MLS is going to get up to 30+ Franchise despite the cries from euro-centric Soccer Purists; and NASL\USL will merge. (MLS is already at 24 teams if you include future franchises)

The MLS style will never evolve into European quality so long as they have the contract limits and lack of free-agency. It's just not an attractive option for the majority of pros.

Man, I would love for Charlotte to get a team. I think Memorial Stadium can be home to an MLS team with some upgrades. SKC has one of the nicest stadiums in the MLS and one of the best atmosphere and their park holds like like 18k. An MLS team I really feel like would be successful in Charlotte, the key is finding an ownership group willing to spend the money for a team. If we can find an ownership group I feel like we have a great shot at landing a team in Charlotte. They would instantly become my new top club even over Liverpool.
San Antonio has a beautiful NASL stadium

If in some alternate reality MLS became as popular the NFL; they would be paying higher salaries than 95% of European teams. The USA+Canadian market is larger than England, Germany, Spain, and Italy (Big four leagues) combined, so its not crazy to think a domestic salary capped league could compete salary wise with the Sevillas, Evertons, Bayer Leverkusen and Palermo's of the world eventually. Granted this is a long way off from happening if it ever happens at all. I'll settle for more competent youth development in the mean time. I have no problem with it being a seller's league for the next decade or two.

I disagree, the BPL just signed a MASSIVE tv deal, and moreover it has the benefit of an intriguing structure and a long history. Additionally, there is no salary cap- so the best played players in the world will be attracted to play there.
