Needs something...Joe Johnson to DET w/ LAC and Dallas
This feels like it needs something small to Dallas or maybe elsewhere (from LA likely), but wanted to see...
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=oraczq9
Detroit trades Jennings, Meeks, and Butler for JJ.
Get a solid 3 on a huge expiring, it cuts a year off Meeks's contract, and they go for a run this year at the playoffs. Leaves them short a backup PG though.
Brooklyn trades JJ and Jefferson for Meeks, Felton, Wilcox, Butler (NG), Crawford (1.5 mil guaranteed).
Move Johnson for a young SG prospect and a ton of savings. If Crawford and Butler are waived, saves about 10.8 mil off the cap plus tax savings. They downgrade talent but I think at that price it is worth it.
LA trades Crawford, Hawes, and Wilcox for Jennings and Jefferson.
Get an upgraded pair of bench guys, but have to give up the only young player on the roster. Don't know what else they could give, and don't know what Jennings is worth entirely given his injury, so they may need to add.
Dallas trades Felton for Hawes.
Send out a bad expiring for a bench big who is a buy low chance.

To fix Detroit's PG issue, could Felton (or Jack) just not go there?
Still not crazy about it for the Clippers. Hawes was bad but this team needs some bench size that isn't Big Baby Davis, and to stop racking up guards.

I thought about sending Felton there, but I'm not sure that fixes anything, they may be better off w/ noone. Maybe Jack, then they find some small filler to send back out.

Re: Needs something...Joe Johnson to DET w/ LAC and Dallas
This is pretty interesting. Agree with loserX that the Clippers need another big, but maybe they just use an exception to sign that guy. It's nice having a young iron man at center to reduce your desperate need for depth.
I'd do the Dallas part. Hawes isn't great, but Rick would like his ability to spread the floor and he's been a solid rebounder most of his career which helps.
No-brainer for the Nets who downgrade slightly but save a billion dollars
No-brainer for the Pistons who don't give up anything they should care about and see if they can get their kids a year of playoff experience and then have more cap room the following year.
Its not bad. Clippers part is the trickiest.

Pistons are still paying J. Smith. I can't see them trading for J. Johnson. Frankly, they were a pretty good shooting team after the cut Smith and before Jennings got injured. Outside of Charlotte, Dallas and potentially the Knicks, I don't see a lot of landing places for J. Johnson.

Break it down - keep it simple.
Detroit trades #38, second in 2016, Jennings, Meeks, and Butler for JJ.
Detroit fills a big hole at sf for bit pieces.
Nets add a couple of low picks and save about $6 mil (plus lower penalty).
But, Nets might not be willing to take extra year of Meeks - so -
Detroit gets JJ, Nets get Butler and $20 TE, Philly gets Meeks and Jennings, #38, Det 2nd in 2016, Nets 2nd in 2016.
Here Detroit still fills it hole. Philly gets picks for taking on salary - Jennings could be in or out depending upon whether Philly takes him on cheaply because they can use him. Nets get $20 mil+ TE - and get out of Luxury tax - and actually be just under the cap if it goes up to $67 mil as expected so they could use their MLE.
The real trick here is that Nets would have that TE to pick up players before the deadline to make a playoff push.

neither Dallas nor the Knicks make any sense at all. The teams that make sense are teams with contracts attached to mediocre players that they can aggregate into one better player in Johnson while offering financial relief to the Nets. Dallas and Knicks don't have the bad contracts to match and they certainly wouldn't clear cap space for him.

That's a lot of money Philly's taking on for not much incentive.

They both would make sense if they strike out in FA. Neither team is going to tank and J. Johnson could be a one-year place holder for salary purposes until next year. He can still put the ball in the hoop and add value on the court - which frankly is why I'm not sure the Nets should trade him.

Could be just Meeks going to Philly. But, Philly might actually take Jennings on fairly cheaply since they could use him (and he is expiring). It would get their salary up a little without taking in total dead weight. Could have Nets send a player to Philly - like Plumlee/Bogdano/Karasev as incentive. Karasev should be enough.

Re: Needs something...Joe Johnson to DET w/ LAC and Dallas
From a clippers perspective i'm pretty sure i take this trade 10 times out of 10. It was mentioned that trading hawes seems counterproductive given that the team needs a true 3rd big that's not BBD. I agree with that, but that guy is not hawes and it's never going to be him. Doc rivers is not good enough of a coach to know how to utilize hawes and his limited mobility. His defensive system calls for a big man who can switch and hawes can't do that.
Anyway, to me basically it's clearing out one horrific nba player (crawford) for a very good one and someone who showed immense growth this past year (jennings) while cutting off hawes's contract before it does any real damage in the 1st cap boom year. Another big can be signed using the MMLE this offseason anyway.
Super win for LA. Only thing i wouldn't be sure about is how jennings would be able to handle coming off the bench.

Its still 18 million for a few second round picks. 26 mil if Jennings goes too, and they wouldn't have a use for Plumlee.

Detroit gets JJ (24.9),
Nets get Butler 4.5 and $24 TE,
Philly gets Meeks(6.3, 6.5) and Jennings 8.3, #38, Det 2nd in 2016, Nets 2nd in 2016, #28 (after draft), Plumlee 1.4 and Karasev1.6.
Detroit gets its veteran stud sf for bit pieces, a couple of 2nds and $6mil in cap room.
Philly gets Jennings - a guy it could use right now even at 8.3 mil. Meeks is dead weight for two years. For taking on the salary ($17 mil), 3 picks and 2 prospects on rookie contracts.
Nets get a @35 mil TE (would be even better if they could get Philly to also take CButler).

Does Detroit have that much cap space (25 minus 16 - would need $9 mil in space)? The picks are to take Meeks - so no picks.
Is JJ worth giving up $9 mil in space - and Jennings? Might need Nets to send a player back or a 2nd.

Look I want to trade the guy pretty badly. But despite that I still believe he could give a team 15-18 mpg as a decent backup PG. He sat all year in Dallas only to get forced into action at the end of the year due to injuries and he wasn't terrible. Its just we have Devin, will almost certainly bring back JJ and we still need a starter. We can't keep having a roster full of small guards.
No one but Chris Paul has started more games at PG than Felton since Ray entered the league. Now all but maybe one of those years he was a below average starter, but he could still be a decent stopgap backup.
I think.

Detroit probably wants to move out Meeks. Let me introduce you to Ray Felton and Dallas takes Meeks. We need shooting and a guard with a little more size.

I think so.
Also, I felt Jennings was expendable given RJ there and the fact he's coming off a major injury.
JJ fills a bigger need for them IMO.

Probably but before the deadline when there were JJ to DET rumors it was supposedly Jennings. Butler, Jerebko, Anthony or Datome and picks according to Stu Jackson. Doubt they were more than heavily protected future picks, maybe seconds but we weren't taking back Meeks.
