 That's got to be my fav gif of all-time!

But I betting you haven't seen a single Mudiay CBA game. I have and he doesn't impress me. He does a lot of things good/average but nothing special.

I think the problem with that whole approach is that it uses cap room. So unless we know who is or is not coming, I don't think we should trade the pick and use up valuable/limited cap room in that same transaction.

So did Mudiay become a worse player sometimes in the last 24 hours?

I don't think Mudiay will get past #6, so you're basically looking at Orlando, who would probably avoid Mudiay.

They can give us instantly-waivable deals for Calderon, in Ridnour/Gordon.

They also have some young guys on cheap deals like Fournier and Harkless.

But it only works if we know that Orlando wants a specific player at 4, and that we can credibly threaten to draft. It's kinda tough... Winslow, Porzingis, WCS, and Hezonja would all make sense for them.

theoretically if you attach Calderon and the 4th to move down a few spots and acquire 5, 6, or 7. You should be able to get the player you want and another play/pick and use less cap room.

I am sure that would be the theory behind it.

With you 100%.

The only thing I'd say is if our guy and the other teams guy (that they covet) are one in the same -- you probably need to stay put / take the player.

But if we like someone better than the teams picking #5, #6 or #7 and can slide down and add assets -- this is my preference.

Don't we save some money by trading down?

Anyhow, signing a free agent cuts into our cap space too. It just depends who the vet is, what he can contribute and how much he contract is. We need to acquire talent be it through the draft, free agency and trades. If there isn't a player out there who is worth the value of his contract then we don't make that trade. Maybe we just trade down and get two picks in next years draft. I don't know. But the point is to parlay our no. 4 into additional assets while still getting our guy. It doesn't have to be a player and a pick. It could be two (or three) picks.

there is nothing wrong with mind f*cking orlando to thinking we can pick anyone and trade it to sacremento or denver to worry them.

Orlando might have no need for Mudiay but they might really really want Winslow or Porzingis. You can call up orlando and say Denver or Sacremento is about to make a trade with us for #4 for so and so. Orlando could get worried that there guy could get scooped up and force them to call us and offer to take Calderon $$$ off the books to swap #4 for #5 to guarantee they get there guy.

It would save the knicks 7.5 million in cap space and give them nearly 35 million to spend in FA and still come away with there guy at #5.

Yeah - moving Calderon in the process of sliding down a few spots would seem the ideal move BUT if we can slide down and get a legit starting caliber player in the process --- why not add that player regardless if it reduces your overall cap. If the asset fits and is starter material on a decent deal lets do it.

In a trade down I don't think we are looking at losing our 2015 pick altogether for a straight player swap (top player).
I think we are sliding down a few slots and picking up a decent (younger) asset for our trouble.

That said I don't want to just take on $13M of T-Lawson and #6 in exchange for #4 --- we'd have to offset that salary we are taking back at least most of it.

i'd rather be complaining and arguing over picking Mudiay or Winslow.

Rather than arguing about picking Kaminsky & Myles Turner (no offense to them but I would rather be arguing the pick at 4. Rather than the pick at 12 or 13.

If the Knicks weren't picking 4th overall and was picking later then absolutely he should be considered because he could be a good player. But the Knicks are picking 4th. They need to end up with more than good. You guys are missing that part (the picking 4th part). Folks aren't saying that he's no good. They are saying that he shouldn't be drafted 4th cause they see him more as a role player in the NBA.

Manny don't fit the mold either...

ok i love it.

Knicks trade the #4 pick(Winslow or Porzingis) + Calderon

for

#5 pick Mudiay

holy crap if phil pulls that off he is a freaking genius, we could get Aldridge + Gasol. any reason orlando wouldn't do it?
