I'm still hoping he can trade the pick for a young proven guy.

#8 for Batum and #23
Ball handling, shooting, defense and still just 26 with a lot of experience, could possibly add a stretch 4 with #23.

I wouldn't mind that trade but the thing to keep in mind here is that Batum's contract expires after next season. They would have to make sure he's open to an extension with Detroit before making that move. A one-year rental of Batum isn't worth dropping from 8 to 23.

My bad, I thought he had 2 or 3 more for some reason. We would definitely have to work something out in that case but I do like the fit and I believe it's the type of move SVG is looking to make right now.

Yeah it does make sense and I think Batum is a really good fit for what Detroit needs (outside of being a scorer). There were some rumors that Portland will be shopping him this summer too so it might be a realistic move.

He hasn't had many opportunities since Lillard showed up, plus he's been running the offense a lot. I think he could efficiently average 14 here right now, plus all of the intangibles. He's a better version of Tayshaun and just approaching his prime.

Why are you so gung-ho in trading our glorious pick. You do realize that picks, do become valuable players as well, right?sc8581 wrote:#8 for Batum and #23

This is a young core we have, and adding young players allows for them to grow together.
I'm just curious. Do you think all the players available are terrible?

In our range I don't like our chances for one but I also don't want to wait 3 years for these kids to possibly develop into solid to good starters. Batum is only 26 and would make us much better right away, I don't believe Winslow has a ceiling much higher than where Nicolas is at now anyway and he's the guy most of us are hoping falls to #8.

i do believe they see Batum as part of their future core with Lillard. Its going to take alot more than #8.

I've been reading differently over the last year or so.

drafting players is very much a educated guess. Your drafting a player you hope will be part of your future core or has the potential to be, where as if you trade it(at its highest value), you get a ready now player to go with our readyish now team. Anyone drafted at #8 more certainly will be coming off the bench.
#30 +H Barnes for #8.
We become
RJ
KCP
Barnes
FA
Dre
Nice young core full of two players around teh same age. We'd only make this trade having Barnes already commited to a long term deal.
sc8581 is of the opinon that drafting a player with the hope they develop is too risky. and he does have a point. Combine that with the fact that we are/can be a playoff team, adding a core piece through trade at the cost of a developmental pick does make a bit of sense.
