Your Top 3 Steals of the 2015 NBA Draft

Post#1 » by sweetcity » Wed Jun 3, 2015 9:54 pm

Every year we see guys like Draymond Green, Marc Gasol, Goran Dragic, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Paul Millsap etc come out of nowhere to become stars.

Who are your top 3 guys that come out of nowhere for the 2015 draft

Mine

1) Chris McCullough - Coming out way to early, if he was in the 2016 draft he'd be top 10
2) Delon Wight - has every skill, but more importantly the skills to become an elite lockdown defender
3) Cliff Alexander - if he had his head on straight, he'd be a top 15 pick on talent alone

Well Paul George was the 10th pick and some considered he had a high ceiling, but a low floor. Anyway Myles Turner is very underrated if he was picked by Pacers I think he will be a better version of Hibbert. Less height but great rim protection with great shooting.

Also Rakeem Christmas, Justin Anderson, Robert Upshaw.

The Draft has not happened yet, until you see where everyguy falls you cant really talk about potential steals.

Not if you think about potential. I think the question is more "who POTENTIALLY could be a steal?"

If that's the case, I have a list of players I think will make it in the league and I have an idea how their careers will go. The top three players with the most potential that should be higher than their probable projected spots are:

Projected to be All-Star types:
- Emmanuel Mudiay (I think he has #2 pick potential)
- Willie Cauley-Stein (In three years or so, I think he evolves past his lack of offense)
- Myles Turner (If he's played correctly, he can be a monster)

Remember, these aren't all that I have listed as all-star caliber players. These players just have what I think is the most potential in lower spots than I think they are normally given. Later in the draft I have more sleepers.

Cameron Payne was one for me a couple of months ago but at this point I dont think he can qualify as coming out of no where as he has been rapidly rising among boards and is pretty high at this point.

This is going to be a very good draft for this exercise. If the draft ends up playing out like the mocks, I see it like the 2008 draft, where there are multiple players picked from the late teens through the 30's that will be better than the mid-late lottery picks.

I would put Myles Turner as a candidate, but I'm not sure he won't be picked as high as #5.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

I'd say Turner but I guess you can't call a guy drafted in the top 10 a steal.
Hunter
McCullough
The Mickey/Wood/Portis trifecta (in that order in regards to value)
Upshaw
Vaughn
There are a ridiculous number of late round prospects who I have an affection for this year.

There is also some truth to the fact that this is a better question after the draft, I didn't love Rodney Hood in the top 10 last year (although I really liked him as a prospect) but thought he was the steal of the draft at 23 where the Jazz took him. I wasn't a Sullinger fan but at 21 I thought it was a good pick.

Kaminsky - Him going to anyone outside the top 10 is a steal. If his last name ended in a -ski he'd be a top 5 pick... OH WAIT!
Upshaw - If he can get his head right. He'd be a top 5 pick without his history.
Grant/Wright - At least one team is likely to pick up a very solid contributor late in the draft.
