Charlotte Hornets Staff

Post#1 » by yosemiteben » Fri Jun 5, 2015 4:32 pm

Don't think we have a separate thread on non-GM and non-head coaching staff, but with the news about the scout reshuffling seems like this would be a worthwhile thread. I had a post a couple months ago showing the changes in the staff from the beginning of the 2013-14 season to the beginning of the 2014-15 season, but can't seem to find it. Here is a link to the 2013-14 staff, and here is one to the 2014-15 staff.

In terms of our general scouting staffing, in 2012-13 we had the following positions:

Director of Scouting - Scott Howard
Director of International Scouting - Adam Filippi
Director of Pro Scouting - Todd Quinter
Director of Advance Scouting - Drew Perry
Director of Basketball Analytics - Jason Rosenfeld
4 Scouts - Anthony Gacona, Dickey Simpkins, Jim Thrash, Francis Williams
2 Video Scouts - Rick Higgins, Joey Levin

Our current staff listing provides for the following positions:

Director of Global Scouting - Adam Filippi
Director of Pro Scouting - Todd Quinter
Director of Advance Scouting - Drew Perry
1 Scout - Buzz Peterson
2 Team Scouts - Dicky Simpkins, Francis Williams
2 Video Scouts - Rick Higgins, Joey Levin

So we've made the following moves:

(1) let go of Scott Howard as Director of Scouting and that position was phased out,
(2) let go of Jason Rosenfeld as Director of Basketball Analytics and that position was phased out,
(3) let go of Anthony Gacona and Jim Thrash as Scouts,
(4) changed the title of Dicky Simpkins and Francis Williams from "Scout" to "Team Scout."

The only addition was Buzz Peterson, who now is the only person on staff with the sole title of "Scout."

Adam Filippi should work with MKG if Price can't anymore, he can shoot.

Buzz Peterson was MJ's roommate at UNC. Was the head coach at the University of Tennessee a few years back.

Great work man, looking at the decrease in staffing it seems like we'll be looking to hire new guys in the near future.

Got rid of some deadweight huh, good. Lil Silas next. We need to start getting rid of some of the deadweight on the roster too.

I'm sure he is.

since im board. i did some research on some of our staff.

Drew Perry: Advanced Scouting
As the club’s primary advance scout, Perry is responsible for making sure the team is prepared for every opponent,
including knowing their play calls, most frequently run plays and other tendencies. Perry, who served as the
team’s video coordinator for its first eight seasons, also manages the franchise’s regional scouts.

Adam Filippi: Global Scouting
Filippi received his first scouting job with Fortitudo in 1997. After starting his own scouting service in Italy,
he became the youngest scout in the NBA in 1999 when was hired by the Nets. He later founded Global Vision, a
Europe-based scouting service that consulted with 12 NBA teams, including the Lakers, before joining the Lakers
scouting staff full-time in the summer of 2001.

Todd Quinter: Pro Scouting
Quinter, who spent the 2011-12 season as an advanced scout for the Bulls, has more than 25 years of scouting and basketball operations experience. He served with the Suns in several different roles from 1986-2011, initially joining the Suns as a video coordinator before serving as an advance scout, assistant coach, Director of Scouting and Director of Player Personnel, among other positions. In 2008, Quinter served as the advance scout for the gold medal-winning U.S. Men’s Senior National Team during the Beijing Olympics.

Larry Jordan: Director of Player Personnel
his chief responsibilities include scouting college, NBA Development League and NBA games to
identify and evaluate players, as well as providing results and analyses to assist in developing and improving
the roster. Jordan spent his previous two years with the organization as Director of Special Projects, where he
worked closely with various departments identifying needs and seeking replacements for under-performing
models.

Is it really Dicky Simpkins? If so then it's quite the coincidence that we have a scout whose name so similar to Michael's Bulls teammate Dickey Simpkins.
