Wasserman Media Group's Arn Tellem, one of the most powerful and prominent player agents in the history of the NBA, is finalizing an agreement to take a senior management position that will oversee the Palace Sports and Entertainment company that owns the Detroit Pistons, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Don't know much about him but it seems like a good hire to me.

Edit:Reading info on him yeah i definitely like this hire

In 2006, Sports Business Journal named Tellem the Most Influential Agent in Sports and The Sporting News named Tellem "Most Influential Sports Agent." In 2004 and 2005, Tellem was the only NBA player agent named to The Sporting News "50 Most Influential People in Sports Business” and was recognized as the industry’s top agent by the magazine in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2008, Sports Business Journal ranked him second among sports agents. Two years later Business Insider named Tellem one of the world's four "best" sports agents. In 2013, Forbes ranked Tellem the third most powerful agent in sports; and first in basketball.

He is also agent for current free agents Draymond Green and Lamarcus Aldridge

Wow, that's huge. Obviously Arn isn't going to drain any threes for us, but this is a great move. He is one of the most influential men in the NBA. He understands the business better than anybody and he still has direct connections to NBA players.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

He's also Hezonja’s agent, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Detroit after this.

It still doesn't make a difference in the fact that the GSW will still have the authority to match ANY contract offer sheet Draymond signs. And, after the Dubs storming through the west, I can't imagine they let him walk while David Lee is just sucking up cap space on the bench.

If anyone can figure out how to make Detroit an attractive free agent destination, it's Arn Tellem.

Maybe this is me going super fanboy for a second, but that 2nd name is a very prominent name this summer as well. I know everyone thinks Spurs or Knicks, but there's also been stories he'd consider Cleveland, so the Detroit market might not be a deterrent. Tellem should hopefully be able to get us in a room with him, then it's Stan & Drummond's chance to convince him he'd be "The Guy" (reportedly something important to him) and his path to success may be more direct in the East with a young core of Drummond/KCP/Jackson/Pick 8 around him.

I really want Draymond, but I'd be pretty surprised if the Ws didn't match a contract for him. About the only way I see us getting him is on a S&T with Monroe going to the (soon to be) world champs, even then, one would think Draymond fits their style better.

He's not working at all on the basketball side - it's all about Palace S&E Business side. He will be available to Stan for an opinion on basketball matters if Stan seeks him out, but he reports only to Gores about business matters. It's weird to me why Tellum would even take this job, has to be a pay cut given what he would be making from agent fees even this coming off-season, maybe he wants out of that highly competitive rat race.

This has nothing to do with the players he represents - but his early August start time was likely chosen as the date so he can get his last class of free agents signed and settled before coming to Detroit.

Absolute coup of a hire though.

I was thinking the same thing about it being a paycut for him but it did mention something about an ownership stake.

This seems like a HUGE deal to me. He is the Scott Boras of the NBA. I'm blown away by this hire. I have no idea if his relationship with any of the free agents will effect anything, but it can't hurt. I think this is great for Detroit's reputation and standing as a destination for free agents. I'm also intrigued by the fact that he represented Hezonja. This definitely changes how I view his prospect status.

Congrats on getting Tellum onboard. Your teams have been my Eastern Conf squad since the bad boys. You now have inside info and a close tie to many of the top free agents eg Gasols ,Green ,LMA A Davis ,Westbrook the Lopez's.

I've met the Tellum due to their Bay Area connections so I expect further Piston upswing.

Most normal people have very little understanding of just how powerful managers/agents are, no matter the field (sports, entertainment, e.t.c.) this hire should show everyone, just how intensely Gores wants to build a winner.

This hire signals a massive change, and the next several years are going to be something folks. WOW.

LMA will be a Piston only if we're relocating to somewhere in Texas.

Before this news, I thought there' was a 0% chance we'd be in play for him. Now I'm willing to bump it up to .5% or even 1%. "Insiders" have claimed that Western Conference free agents have taken notice of the current state of the East. We now have an in to at least open up the communications. Obviously we are in a market that makes it difficult to lure FAs, but we've got a young core that would compliment him well, one of the best coaches and could present a direct path to immediately contend for a Finals spot.

I still think he's going to the Spurs, but this news opens it up as a possibility in my mind instead of immediately scoffing at the notion.

Getting a smart and savy expert on the business of the NBA on your team is a great thing, but it still seems a little fuzzy on exactly what Tellem will be doing.

He's doing business side stuff, not NBA stuff per Vince Ellis.I have a feeling he'll help here and there.

Would be nice to get LMA, but then again it'd be nice if I could come home and find Scarelett Johansson in my bed.

LMA house is up for rent in portland - they out
SA- will go after gasol- they out
Cavs will be bringing love back- they out
Nets - no
Knicks- no if LMA wants to win
Heat- no
hawks- no
bulls- no

pistons make most sense. they can offer same amount of cash as knicks and a better opportunity at a championship with better coaching and talent plus a high draft pick.

pistons have brandon jennings, meeks, kcp, tolliver, joel anthony, caron butler, jackson, drummond.

with LMA and pick#8 being either johnson, winslow, or hezonja. well then why not? ****

our bench is

jennings
meeks
butler
tolliver
anthony

that is just as deep as GSW bench

plus w ehave wing defenders in kcp and stanley johnson. plus great C and PG and with LMA it is his best fit.

there is no way this is crazy, actually.
