we can't pay him expensive yet.

Wouldn't lack of opportunity increase the odds that he spurns us as an RFA?

We need every single game to evaluate him so we know what he's worth next summer. We need to build loyalty and a culture.

20-25 mpg is good for him.

If he were productive in those 20-25 min, he'd still get paid. We are beyond simple volume stats at this point.

wise statement.
i think the lakers may need to take a step back from everything and just evaluate the talent that they do possess.
the lakers were very well taken care of, and had the ability to make land big name FA after big name FA in the past...i think players don't fall for that anymore, and i don't think jim buss has the ability to lure players the way jerry buss did. (even though kupchak is the one to lure players).
lakers need to see what they have, see what they can dump, and build talent....right now they know 3 things-

1. randle is an asset
2. clarkson has game
3. kobe will retire soon

Now, fit wise, I can't see anybody better than Justise Winslow....Talent wise, its Okafor/Russell, and potential wise, its Mudiay/KAT

Why is Winslow the best fit when there are holes everywhere on this team?

I like Winslow more than most (have him #3 after both bigs) and I'd love to have him, but not at 2. Had LA not jumped up in the lotto we might be having a different debate with Winslow in it with the 4 or 5 pick.

the reason i said that was because i think KAT will go #1 and he's ideal next to Randle. On the other hand, the lakers still have kobe at SG for another year (and theres no good sg to draft).
Clarkson had a wonderful season for us out of left field. Id like to see him for another season with some talent around him.
Okafor is the best available player after KAT, but him and Randle really play the same type of game...they both excel 10ft and in, and they both lack defensive qualities.
Winslow is the highest upside SF available, and SF is an obvious gaping hole in the starting 5.

thats why i said he's probably a better fit right now, with the players that we have...

i mean if it was upto me, and I had seen all the players workout as I expected the workout to be?....then I'd be taking D'Angelo Russell with the 2nd pick.

don't get me wrong, i know our whole starting 5 has holes...except maybe PF with Randle...but I'm just thinking that drafting Okafor now would kind of mean that the Randle pick last year was a dumb move...but who at that time knew we would be jumping to the 2nd pick? Now, if Okafor can develop a defensive game...say 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, a couple of altered shots, and stay at 50% from the FT line all packaged with his elite offensive game....then I'm taking him with the first pick all day.

we need talent as much as possible, draft talent first, figure it out later.

Warriors won't be as good as today if they didn't draft Curry and Klay because they had Monta, Steph Jackson and Maggette.

This is absolutely wrong. There's no reason to start being attached to guys like Randle and Clarkson since they haven't proven to be anything. Clarkson had a nice year, but he'll have to be a far more consistent player to be a good starter in this league. He would also learn to work off-ball and be more physical on defense. Randle may very well be a solid player in this league, but there's no reason to worry about who he's playing next to now. Should something arise later on about fitment issues (if Okafor is drafted) and if Randle actually becomes solid to good as we project him to be, then he becomes a valuable asset. Assets are important and become bargaining chips later on to bring in talent that can fit considering this is a rebuild phase no matter how impatient ownership is when it comes to contending.

If a talent that projects to have a higher ceiling than either of these guys comes along, you take that player. The Lakers are in no position to be picky and start working about fit when the whole situation is a mess. Russell projects to have a much higher ceiling according to you. Why wouldn't you take that? No need to worry about Clarkson's feelings!

Also depending on how Russell and Clarkson develop, if they are coach properly and work hard, they can work together as pair of good sized guards. Either can initiate the offense though it's best if Russell does this more often between the 2. Coaching and player dedication would kick in since it's best to develop their off-ball ability.
