Re: State of the Union. Team Canada Basketball.
I think the discussion here is that Ennis is very likely out this summer...so who then is the back-up PG? I agree Pangos should be in the discussion, Anderson is probably a better choice - but Pangos should warrant serious consideration if the other choices are Caduogan or going with one of Heslip/Rautins being the back up PG (which I agree is asking for trouble).
Feel free to chip in on who else you think are viable PGs for the SMNT. Kabongo? Scrubb? Mullings? Pangos is probably a better option.

Adam Zagoria tweeted no Jamal Murray but yes to Justin Jackson on the u19 team. Poser, Teki, Brooks, Egi etc all there too.

Re: State of the Union. Team Canada Basketball.
Notable no-shows are Murray, Ekiyor, and Narain.
No Ekiyor or Narain leaves the team pretty thin up front. I can see them going with a lot of sets with Egi as the only true big, and Brooks or Jackson as the nominal 4.
Anyone know if Poyser is a legit option for PG, or if he is more of a 2?
If the latter, not sure who will play point. Tutu and Provo split the job last year and Tutu is not on the invite list this year.
Still, with Jackson back in the fold, and potentially Poyser making the team, Brooks, Gill-Caesar, and Egi should have some help, and it looks to be a stronger team than last year's.

I like Pangos's game, and think it would fit FIBA ball well. Not sure, if he has the talent to play with the big boys, but it wouldn't be the end of the world to have one 10mpg guy in the rotation that isn't in the NBA.

I also like Pangos, and think he fits the FIBA game extremely well. Will still get torched on D though.

Are you just guessing, or have you heard something?
According to Wolstat and other media sources (see details earlier in this thread), Olynyk, Powell, Bennett, Wiggins, and Stauskas are committed.
Nicholson and Heslip have been very dependable, so I assume they will be in camp. And once he signs a contract, I assume C. Joseph will be on board.
I am less certain about Sacre, Thompson (b/c of contract), English, Rautins, Anderson, Pangos, Hanlan, and K. Joseph.

Are they committed to the Pan Am Games, Fiba Amercias or both?

Per Wolstat they are committed to FIBA. I doubt many of them (if any) play PanAms.
Only thing I have read re PanAm team is that Jamal Murray is a "strong possibility". That was per hoops hype a couple days go.

No kidding eh? That would be a fantastic opportunity for a young guy like Murray to get some experience playing/practicing against high caliber players, and getting some good coaching. That is something kids in a lot of different countries (USA even) wouldn't get the opportunity to do. I'm really liking the job Canada basketball has done with regards to helping kids improve, and also keeping them close with the national program.

Re: State of the Union. Team Canada Basketball.
Not sure I consider HoopsHype reputable original reporting.
My guess is Jamal has allot of schooling work to complete if the focus is being 2015 eligible. On top of that, whatever school lands him will likely want him on campus as soon as possible. Ala wiggins and Kansas in 2013.
I doubt he has time for any team canada stuff this summer. No u19, no panam games, no AAU, no nike global challenge.

I'd also choose Pangos if Ennis is gone. I also include Hanlan as a bench 2 partially because we don't have many clear-cut options there, but also partially for his versatility to be the 3rd PG option.
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

I'm not going to claim that he would be a difference maker or anything, but Pangos is actually a pretty smart and hard-working defender (or, at least he turned into that his senior year). Where he gets into trouble is defending the super athletic point guards. But as a backup for the National Team in FIBA play, he wouldn't be put into that situation. That's not the kind of point guard he would be facing very often. I think he would be fine defensively.

Canada announced its U19 team this morning.
Only surprise (compared to the training camp list of 19 they announced last week) is that Montague Gill-Caesar did not make it.

That seems odd..wasn't he arguably their 2nd best player last summer after Brooks. At least he was the #2 offensive weapon...not sure if he was efficient or not. I heard he played with a bad back most of the season...wonder if that is acting up or this was a straight cut.
Also curious on who you guys think is missing from this team assuming all top U19 talent was available. Jamal Murray seems like an obvious one, and we seem to be missing some size up front. Is Nolan Narain's absence painful? Who is this team really missing?
It seems in 2013 the only missing piece was Wiggins (a big one though).

Yes, arguably he was their 2nd best player after Brooks. I suspect he pulled out for injury or other reasons rather than being cut.
The team is strong at wing, with Jackson, Brooks, Johnson and Poyser (I am guessing that Henry and Provo will play point, with Poyser at SG).
They lack size (I think the Cadet team is bigger). Ekiyor and Narain could have really helped up front. As it is now, Egi will be relied on heavily, and Jackson and Brooks may end playing a lot of PF.
They are also a little weak at point. Howard Washington was not in camp, and may have been a better option than Provo or Henry.
Munis Tutu, who shared the spot with Provo last summer, also was not in camp.

Cadet game is on now. Chance to see Barrett and Shi-ttu - possibly our best prospects since Wiggins.
