The smart move for him would be to get into camp immediately and push for that job. Easily his best bet of getting the payday he wants would be to step in and play well at OT. If he decides to hold out again and push for more money, or only comes to the mandatory stuff, just start someone else over him and see what we've got.

It was disappointing that he didn't take part in the voluntary OTA's with all the changes happening. But there doesn't appear to be an issue with him holding out. He is currently in the Bay Area and ready to report to camp. He stated he would attend mandatory camps so unless something drastically changes. From that article's perspective, it seems tackle would be a good fit. With Davis departure, the team could really use Boone's veteran skill.

Right now Pears is starting at RT in minicamp which makes sense but much rather Boone in that spot as he's always been more of a natural OT anyways.

But not only would Boone being RT be a good fit it also frees up a spot to have Kilgore or Martin play RG and to me a Kilgore/Martin paired with Boone is a much better pairing than a Boone Pears pairing.

Heck I would much rather have Trent Brown at RT than Pears. I would rather get an up and coming rookie reps than an aging below average vet.

I agree. I am really hopeful someone steps up and it doesn't come to Pears. I was reading a comment from a Buffalo writer and he said Pears is a better tackle than guard but he still played poorly even at tackle.

Go with youth. Let the rebuild begin. Get younger and cheaper. With O line progress and a couple high pick drafts, we could be back in two seasons.

Erik Pears - G - 49ers

The Sacramento Bee projects Erik Pears as the 49ers' starting right guard this season.

Pears, 33, was PFF's No. 76 guard among 78 qualifiers last year with the Bills. From left to right, beat writer Matt Barrows projects the 49ers' O-Line to shake out as LT Joe Staley, LG Brandon Thomas, C Daniel Kilgore, RG Pears, and RT Alex Boone. Pears isn't good, 2014 "redshirt" pick Thomas has never played an NFL snap, Kilgore is coming off a broken leg, and Boone would be converting from guard to tackle. This is the fallout of losing LG Mike Iupati (free agency) and RT Anthony Davis (retirement). It's a concern for Carlos Hyde's fantasy outlook.

Ugghh. I read that. I hope there is an open competition for positions and Thomas or another has a chance to make it. Pears is a crappy veteran guard/tackle. Can't imagine he is going to transform into something different at this stage of his career.
