? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
Hello Lakers' fans-I would like to understand something about your team's direction.
I have posted a bunch of deals that have you all taking Noah for cap space and the #27 (it could be at the draft, or we get the rights to who you pick in July). I have heard from many Lakers' fans that it is a no-go.
Here is how I see your team at the moment:
-Kobe's last season is the short term priority
-Developing Okafor/Randle/Clarkson is one of the long term priorities
-Signing the right FA's is the highest priority
Honestly, I highly doubt LMA or Marc Gasol are looking at LA as an option. No offense, but it doesn't make sense to me that those two could consider LA.
Now, I see LA as the best option for KD if he leaves OKC in 2016-best franchise in the League, nice young core to join, plus cap space for more talent. I actually want my Bulls to go all in for KD next summer too, but I know it is a long shot.
So, my point with Noah is this:
In Kobe's last year, you want to win games. Your pick is almost surely gone, so forget it. If you add Noah cheaply, you get:
- a defensive leader
- a good rebounder and passer
- a vet mentor for Okafor/Randle
- a vet Kobe will respect, won't push around
- a name player that your fans will love
The worst thing LA could do is clog up their cap sheet with Tier 2 or 3 FA's this summer. Try like heck to make the playoffs, then go all in for KD and others next summer, with Randle and Okafor having a year to show what they got.
What am I missing?
Thanks

Re: ? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
1. like you said correctly, the capspace is there to make a play for gasol/love/whoever. lakers are going to chance their arm over the marquee names before committing to lesser goals
2. noah is expiring in 2016, lakers aren't giving up a cheap rookie contract for a one year rental. if the lakers really want noah, they'll chase him in the summer of 2016. at this point, noah isn't going to push LA into 8th seed, nor would paying 14 million dollars to give up a 1st round pick in the lakers' interests either
3. when you say the worst thing LA could do is clog up their cap sheet with tier 2 or 3 FAs this summer, how doesn't that apply to noah? at the end of the day, he's also an overpaid garbage man, one with great intangibles yes, but he's 30 this year. if the lakers wanted a 30 yo to push kobe and the lakers into the playoffs, it'd be marc gasol, not noah, i doubt noah on the wrong side of 30 would want to stick around on a rebuilding team when every single team will have the capspace after the massive cap spike, nor would he be the name that would attract other marquee FAs to tinseltown in 2016
all in all, the lakers are planning on parlaying their good fortune into a marquee FA signing, which would then parlay itself into a desired destination in 2016 when they attempt to replace kobe with KD. add to that, giving up a 1st rounder when it's pretty much guaranteed the lakers won't have a 1st round pick in 2016 for a one year rental and you're going to get laughed off the phone

Re: ? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
27 for Noah would be a no brainer for the lakers IMO. He's a perfect fit next to Randle if the Lakers decide to go with Russell. A core of Russell, Randle, and Noah is pretty attractive next summer for potential free agents.
I know Noah will be a free agent next summer but having had him in the fold for a year helping Randle develop his defense would be great. When next summer comes along, the Lakers would have had an entire season to discuss a new contract with Noah instead of battling out with every other team once free agency starts.

I still don't get why think tier 2 or tier 3 would "clog up" our cap sheet this summer. Kobe contract expires next year, his contract alone will give us room to sign a MAX fa again next year (if we don't this year). Don't you think we would STILL have to sign one or two of these tier 2 or tier 3 players even with Noah in hand (I'd argue at his age and health issues, Noah himself is a tier 2/3 type player now)? You really think Noah is the difference maker from being 2nd worse WCF team to being a playoff team?

Also I've argued with you plenty of times on TT board that I have no doubt there are teams that would take Noah on for just a 1st and no salary back, why does it have to be the Lakers? Most prominent fan base I see is Bos in favor of giving you guys the 28th pick for Noah or Tor willing to give you the 20th if you take back a guy like Vasquez (which you actually need a backup pg)

Re: ? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
Only concern with Noah is if he is genuinely suffering from the Thibodeu treatment or if all those IV injections and wear and tear from playing on gimpy knees eventually got to him. Often times he looked as bad as Pau on defense for the Bulls this season.

Counter: No way. LA doesn't clear you 13+ mil AND give up a 1st rdr. Absurd.
Instead, LA clears you 6.5 mil and for doing so gets a pick swap for loaning you 2015 cap space.
27 + Young (5.2) Kelly (1.7) for
22 + Noah (13.4)

why? He looks like an undersize 2 to me with little to no D at all. Snell has the sz to play both wing spot and has potential to be that 3/D type player, he shot 37% from 3's.

Re: ? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
That is not a bad trade at all but it depends on "who" we draft... If we end up going big, I want to give home minutes... I personally prefer Russell therefore having a defensive anchor & rebounder is appealing... Russell, Clarkson, Kobe, Randle & Noah would be fun to watch...

snell has nearly a 7ft wingspan and 8.9ft standing reach, that is the same measurements as Randle. You wouldn't want a player at SF that's just as long as your PF?

Re: ? about Lakers' Plan-Noah
Thanks for the feedback-this is what I wanted to hear.
For those talking about the other trade-Snell is staying
I guess Noah makes more sense if you draft Russell.
I think NYoung was one of the worst contracts recently. I know it is not much, but I don't know why they went with 4 years. For me, the Lakers should have 2 max spots next year, at least.
And yes, there are other teams that would take Noah, but the Lakers make the most sense to me. I really want the Bulls to go after DCarroll, and trading Noah allows us a very short cap space window-Butler just has to wait a day while we improve his team-then sign his max dea.
Thanks again

It doesn't matter if he can't play as good as my PF. Plus i don't see anything special about Snell. He is decent shooter, i give you that.

and what so special about Brown? He's just another Chucker like Young just in a different form.

He is cheap, better shooter than Young or Snell, can slash, can handle the rock, can play off the ball very well, and very confident for a rookie.
His shooting form is a beauty

Snell shoots the same % from 3's and has a better overall fg%....your facts seem biased.

Lakers should be focused on moving forward. Not sure how Noah fits into what LA has going on. Russell isn't getting drafted over Okafor or Towns either.

Basically, we're saving our cap space up for a big fish, i.e. LMA or Marc Gasol. Yes, odds are that neither comes to the Lakers but as long as the opportunity remains available it doesn't make sense to trade for guys who you know are not part of our long term future. And with Noah, he's probably more valuable with his expiring contract. Honestly, I think I'd rather sign a pair of mid-tier FA (think Beverly, Asik, etc.) that can make us competitive, but with the Clarkson/Randle/#2 development being our preferred improvement. Adding Noah (and more importantly his contract) and giving up another asset, seems terribly short sighted. Now, if the Bulls wanted to make a move similar to: Noah/22 for Young/27/34 then it might have some merit. But I can't imagine the Lakers are going to give up an asset AND take a dent in their FA plans. Especially for a guy whose best days are clearly behind him.

Young's 5 mil and 15 pts in '17 will feel damn good when the cap is 100 mil and guys just like him are making 10 instead of 5. That's an extra 5 to toss into a max guy.
