Dekker is the pick I think Boston would make but if Payne, Grant, and Jones are still there I would think about taking a PG or trading it.

I voted Anderson.

Portis seems like a no brainer on paper, but that leads me to ask why the hell is he still available @ 16? Theoretically, Justin Anderson drops for reasons similar to Kawhi/Jimmy Butler, etcetera...but when I try and figure out why Portis is dropping...

Dekker, Harrell, and maybe one of the PGs appeal to me as well. I would be pleased if all these guys turn out to be available at 16.

Portis, or just trade down slightly and take one of the other good players available.

Man I'm the only vote for Tyus? Did anyone catch that analysis on Draftexpress using stastical models where he ranked consistently top 10?
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Ana ... rt-2-5068/

Guy is fearless and a deadeye shooter. Of the options listed I'll go with Tyus.

I'd like to trade 28 and 33 for a low 20s pick to grab Anderson as well

You could make a good case for him. Young for his class, had been ranked near the top of his class, in conference play he was best-in-conference in terms of on/off court plus/minus. He had a good run in the tourney and his team won the championship.

I looked up this interview:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM10PXy5Qqk

He listed his top 5 all time as: Wilt/Shaq/Bron/MJ/Magic. No Bill Russell, but I think you could give him a pass.

I'm willing to ride the Cam Payne wave of hype and see what happens.

If the draft went this way and Charlotte is sitting with the number 9 pick and Porzingis is available you'do have to jump to get him. I think he'should the most frightening prospect in thus draft, but he has a ton of upside. Projected top 5 by Franschilla.

I selected Portis. I like his length, skill set, and mentality. Although I have a feeling that Celtics will package picks to move up.

Cool idea, although almost every fan base is influenced heavily by Draft Express and Chad Ford mock drafts, so there are no out of the box picks. Hence the Portis getting all the votes.

I wouldn't mind Portis but I'm kind of surprised that every mock out there has us picking multiple PFs. IMO we have bigger needs at C and SF. Anyway, I think you should always draft BPA, that's why I voted Payne. Love his potential and even though he's a PG, I think Smart and him could play together.

If Paynes available i'd snag him. The more likely pick is one of Portis/Anderson/RHJ

I'd take Portis in a heart beat, he might not be a shot blocker but he'd be our best defensive big out of the gate, and his defensive effort and ability along with Smarts is a great young base to work with. I like high IQ, high motor players and he fits the bill.

Agree, and IMO it is possible his offense is underrated. He is sixth in pace adjusted scoring per minute of the top 30 projected first rounders on draft express, and seventh in scoring efficiency (by points per play). Only guys ahead of him on both lists are Kaminsky and Okafor, while Karl Towns was right in that same neighborhood on both.

He was also a top 10 type pick on most of the analytic models they published the other day.

Seems like a situation where the Celtics would likely trade the pick (or trade one of their players for another pick)

Portis is pretty slow, I'm not sure if him being the best defensive big is saying much for us.

Cameron is probably the sexiest pick here, but Delon Wright seems more practical for the Celtics needs. 6'5 natural PG while the Celtics have a bunch of combo guards. He'd be able to fit in with pretty much any backcourt combination. We could finally get rid of Pessy, and we could trade Evan Turner who's stock is going to be the highest it's been since he was drafted.

I'm gonna vote for Delon Wright.

Took the BPA in Payne.

Even if he's not the BPA, he has the hype for it. Flip him for something else.

Payne, KO, 45 to Sac for WCS?

I voted for Cam Payne, but I could go with either him or Jerian Grant and be thrilled with it.

Portis is okay to me, but I really think he's going to have a year like Noah Vonleh, where he sits the bench and doesn't do much year one. That shot is REALLY long. Takes too long. I think he'll end up suffering a bit because of the NBA closeout speed. It'll be up to him to learn how to drive close outs. He can put the ball on the deck a bit though.

Payne has good athleticism and has great measureables for a guy his size. People need to stop comparing him to Elfrid Payton though. They are worlds apart as players. It's very hard to stay in front of Payton. Payne's first step isn't as quick. Payne is a significantly better shooter, and might end up being the better player because of that. Payton's vision and defense are also both better. They both have legit hair.

Jerian Grant also has great athleticism. I really like his potential as a two-way combo guard next to Smart. You want the ball to move in this offense, and I don't think Grant would have any trouble with that.

EDIT: I forgot to post this point, but it needs to be repeated: If the Celtics keep this pick and this is how the board plays out you gotta think they take someone they believe can make an impact from day 1. Reason for that? They're trading the pick eventually to someone else. They need someone they can showcase now, not a year from now. I think Portis needs to grow into the NBA game more than the other two guys, and I'll even add Justin Anderson to that list because I think he can at least defend multiple positions right now. I think Grant can body up at least 1's and 2's. Anderson can go 3's and 4's probably. Extremely valuable skill that's immediately transferable. I don't know if you can make the same argument for Portis.
