Add a few items.

1) Russell is injured and will miss the entire year, and because of this the Sixers have promised to draft him @ 3.

2) Russell wants to go to NYK instead, so Sixers are trading #3 to Minny for #1, selecting Towns, and Russell goes to Minny @3.

Russell cancelled workout wild speculation [POLL]

Post#24 » by Ericb5 » Fri Jun 12, 2015 6:35 pm

This is hilarious how everyone is speculating about horrible things when we only know one thing.

Let's just wait for the story to come out.

A promise from a top 2 team, or a power play to force him to NY are both ridiculous ideas. Not impossible, but clearly wild pessimistic guesses.

Granted, I was one of the people who panicked when we though Embiid had a set back with his foot, but that WAS scary. Lol

Russell was sick. Time for everyone to calm down:

D'Angelo Russell canceled this weekend's scheduled workout with the 76ers after getting "real sick," according to a source close to the former Ohio State standout.

(1) Lakers or Minny have promised to take him with one of the top 2 picks.

(2) Lakers and the Knicks have had discussions regarding a potential deal. Lakers agree to take Russell at #2 and package him with Nick Young for whichever big man is left at #4 plus additional assets from the Knicks. NY has cap space, and may feel that the difference in prospect between Russell and whomever is available at #4 is worth sacrificing some it. I just can't see Philly drafting another big man at #3.. It would be gutsy, but there is just no way.

That's how I see it anyways. Interesting to see how this plays out. Are Sixers fans comfortable with getting whomever is left after Okafor, Towns, and Russell? Would Mudlay be the guy?

And I would not be surprised in the LEAST to see sixers take okafor if he's on the board. We have not seen enough of embiid, Dario, and in my opinion to a certain extent Noel, to decide that any part of our roster is set for the future. As hinkie has said we are still in talent acquisition mode, and okafor at 3 is BPA by a mile

So draft the Big and I'm assuming trade Noel on the open market? I just don't see how Okafor and Embiid would fit in a starting lineup, do you? They"re going to use a top 3 pick in back to back drafts and end up having a guy come off the bench? I dunno, I just don't see that happening.. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I guess it's also possible the Lakers have told Russell to shut down his workouts. I believe he hasn't worked out with Minnesota either, but I could be wrong on that. Lakers did the same thing with Bynum a few years back. Told him to shut down workouts, took him at #10, so that could also be in play here.

Either way, I think the Lakers are taking the prospect who they think will end up being the best player in the draft, and Russell could be that guy. They have a strong track record of taking the best player available, even though they are rarely in the lottery. They hit most of, if not all the time.

I just feel you're wrong when you say "there is no way" they don't take okafor at 3 if he's there. More likely for a trade down but I am of the group that understands there are enough minutes to go around for three post players, and having them all be stellar would be a good problem for us to have. One would have to be trade at some point down the line, it's reasons like this I'm glad hinkie is running the sixers and not you, because how silly would you feel to take mudiay or Winslow or porz or whoever because you are stone set in your future front court, only to watch Joel flame out with nagging injuries, Nerl to not show significant improvement, and okafor to be dropping 24 and 10 a night for the Knicks? Okafor is a better prospect than he gets credit for, and I feel at worst he is going to be a serviceable defender with a deadly post game. If hinkie took porz, mudiay, or Winslow over okafor he's an absolute idiot. And knowing that he isn't, I know he'd maximize okafors value

Sick or hung over? Or pretend sick all as part of a Hinkie masterplan?

Feels a little early to end the wild baseless speculation.

If Russell gets sick then it's only a matter of time he gets sick of the Sixers and the fans. Pass on this guy. He doesn't have the mental fortitude to play in Philly. He has no heart. Read all of that in green font please.

Taking a center in three consecutive drafts, two with top 3 picks, and one with a top 8 pick, doesn't scream genius to me.

It screams we will never be competitive. If the Sixers drafted another big, all it will do is decrease the value of both Okafor and Noel. GM's around the league will pay you pennies on the dollar, because they know you're not going to have a top 3 pick coming off the bench.. Which is what would happen if kept both Embiid and Okafor on the roster.

I dunno, seems to me that to win an NBA title, and have a team that is capable of becoming a dynasty level team, you need both a dominant big man and a dominant perimeter player. You need both.

And really soon here Hinkie is going to start feeling the pressure of fielding a competitive team. He won't be able to put a team on the floor that wins 12-20 games each season much longer. Then I guess we'll see what he's really made of, because so far all I see is a never ending collection of assets with no real plan in place. He's hoping to strike gold with one of them and then figure out the rest of the roster then.

I like Embiid, by the way, I think he's going to be a good one. Let's see what the rest of the roster looks like though because he's not going to be able to win by himself.

We should definitely be able to select multiple options on this poll, lol.

Not that I believe there is any promise, but the GM's of the Lakers and the Knicks getting together is pretty damned funny. First because the Knicks have no real assets to send anywhere, and mostly because if this is their way of playing chicken with Hinkie by daring him to draft Okafor...yeah, seriously, do that. Please do that and see what happens.

In reality, sounds like a scheduling mix-up, or did Pompey get it wrong that he was scheduled today and then claimed it was cancelled when he found out he was wrong? That almost sounds like what happened.

Gotta love the smoke, mirrors and conspiracy theories this time of year brings out in people, it really is the best time of year.

Taking the best player is all that matters. You could take centers in 5 straight drafts if that was how the draft shook out each year.

Players can be traded for roster balance later. Admittedly, I would rather take a guard with the 3rd pick, but if Okafor somehow slipped to 3rd(imo a very small chance) then we would have to draft him.

It won't affect the team's ability to compete in two years, since there is plenty of time to shape the roster between now and then.

It all comes down to Embiid anyway. If he pans out we are set, and if he busts then we are nowhere.

other: Hinkie decided he wants to be a Buddhist monk and quit his job. In the ensuing confusion in the Sixers front office Russell's agent decided to cancel the workout out of fear that D'Angelo would retire and join Hinkie in Tibet.
The feedback I've received from our fans is they understand we are trying to build something great. Good decisions come from having a broad set of options and making tough calls. We will do it unblinkingly. We have to be willing to take smart risks-Hinkie

He's guaranteed to be a Sixer if injured, especially if he's out for the year. Either tore his ACL and Hinkie said we'll take him, or the Lakers promised him 2nd. Of course he could of ate at the Taco Bell I did on Wednesday night and it's taking a few days to get it all out. Dude doesn't want to be like DC in the middle of a game and have to take a dump.

People keep missing the fact that he got real sick. This can only mean he went to Pat's when he should've gone to Geno's.
