Skiles:

- we WILL improve defensively; no excuse not to with the players we have.
- doesn't know if we have that alpha male on the team but still getting to know the players. Since they're young, guys are still trying to find their own game.
- we're a young team and need to use that to our advantage but running more and being aggressive on D by getting up in guys' face
- said Elf is really working hard on his shooting daily and he's already improved. Shooting in the gym every day and his mechanics have changed. Will continue to work at it but not sure if we'll see benefits during summer league

I wonder who will win more games. Malone in Denver or Skiles in Orlando, with pretty much similar roster. If Malone does better (in western conference nonetheless) I'm done with this team.

their roster has some veterans on it....Gallo when healthy is good ...Lawson ... Chandler...

Meanwhile we depend on a second year point guard and a 3rd year s.g. .... We should have a bigger hill to climb don't know why you would bail on the team but to each his own... If we get close to .500 say 36+ wins I will be happy with the season it's not like the magic are ready to win a championship tomorrow, I could care less what any other team does....

BUMP

I just hope he proves me wrong about all I think about him as a coach.

I also believe this is a clear end of the line for Tobias on the Magic. With that I can live if Rob can trade for fair value.

Only he and the frontrunner Doc Rivers interviewed with then-GM John Gabriel. I remember seeing the news report of Scott Skiles being driven in a car by the team.

Many new Doc Rivers would get the job but you did feel bad for Skiles.

While he was playing for The Magic (some of you weren't even born or in diapers), Magic fans knew Scott Skiles would be an NBA head coach one day.

Now, 16 years after he first interviewed for this job 21 years after he last played for this team, Scot Skiles has his dream job and is now the head coach of The Orlando Magic.

Congratulations to Scott Skiles!

I feel happy for him and I obviously feel nostalgic about the days of Scott leading the way. I will root for him as much as I do for this team. I hope for nothing but success.

But I do have a bold and not very positive image of Skiles as a coach. He was basically The guy I did not want the Magic to hire (oh, and VdN also, but that's an easy agreement for all of us).
Scott's defensive coaching skills are a given. He's very good on that department. I never saw in his coaching strenghts anything else of notice and the way he wears out his teams, the fans, the press... I don't believe he's a good choice for a rebuilding team that just came from a depressing year of underachieving (even for rebuilding standards).

I sure hope I have a different opinion in 82+some games from now :)

Well, it's worth nothing now but I guess all the "stats gurus" that defended Skiles like he was god on earth missed the one thing stats can't measure: the human factor. Skiles was known around the league for all the same issues he showed during last season with this team, and no matter what you try to do with it you can't measure thickness of character with analytics. He was not the right option. Period.

Nobody defended Skiles like he was god on earth. That's a ridiculous exaggeration. People posted things meant to diminish his coaching ability and they were refuted with historical evidence to the contrary. That's not defending someone like he's god, that's having a discussion using historical evidence. Some took it as "defending" him because they don't have the ability to debate. They'd usually respond with insults (which is when you know you've won.)

Most didn't agree entirely with his rotations, but most logical people, (not the ones consumed with hate) assumed both coaches and players were becoming accustomed to each other in a completely new system which actually happens on any team after signing a new coach. Obviously he didn't get that here because of who he is but Im sure other more well liked coaches will.

I think some peoples little "I told you so parade" is laughable since his resignation doesn't prove anything, we still made improvements in the statistical categories that a lot of people said he would, the 10 game improvement proves people were right that he'd come in and improve the team. So I'm not sure exactly what people are celebrating.

Skiles gave us +10 improvement on the WL record. Regardless of how bad he is as a coach, the +10 is still big.

Even Skiles regretted the hire by January.

How accurate was this?

I honestly think this team would have had a 10 win improvement had they stayed with Vaughn.

Wha.... Hell no.. Not a single player on this roster improved to a point that they would generate 10 more wins. You could physically see the difference at the beginning of the season how much better we looked.

we'd be +40 wins if we had Kerr/Walton as a coach...
