David Lee Being Moved

Post#4241 » by drekwins » Wed Jun 17, 2015 7:49 pm

With reports of Golden State wanting to move David Lee within the next two weeks, it got me wondering how everyone would feel about him rejoining the Knicks.

Now, hear me out... We are all aware of his defensive shortcomings. However, the guy is very skilled. He can score efficiently from lots of spots, pass the ball, rebound, gives effort every night and is extremely high energy.

If we can get him without biting into our cap space too much, I'd much rather have him than all of the other FAs we have been talking about in the 10 mill range.

For instance, a trade of:

David Lee

for

Trade exception
Calderon
Throw-ins

Does not cost us a ton against the cap. It also give Golden State some extra cash to resign Green while providing a decent backup ball handler for Curry.

What do you think?

adding an additional 8 million dollars isn't costing us a ton against the cap????

Calderon and Hardaway for Lee, 2015 1st and 2019 1st. That's fair enough.

i'd do that. We're not picking up any significant FAs this year anyway.

Not to mention that this would allow the Warriors enough wiggle room to resign Draymond Green, a potential Knicks FA target. This is kinda like shooting yourself in the right foot, and just to make sure you are balanced, shooting yourself in the left foot as well.

Not when accounting for the type of player that he is. We can have Demarre Carroll for 12 mill against the cap or David Lee for 8 (when subtracting traded player salaries).

I'd take Lee in a landslide.

I would probably be willing to take David back for Calderon, depending on what else I planned to do on draft night - and how realistic I thought our chances were to land a legit big impact player in FA. I would, for instance, much rather pay Lee $15 million for 1 season than Monroe $60 millon over 4 - and then see how we look in Summer 2016.

WOW. Moo going all in on this one.

We'd need a 3rd team involved to even out the salaries in any type of D-Lee trade is that accurate?

Looking at the players we can trade (leaving out Galloway) I've got Calderon, Hardawy, Early and Larkin they only tally $10.5M combined and Lee has a $15.0M deal. Delta gets worse if you starting adding in an Ezeli or say a H-Barnes.

I could actually see the Warriors being more likely to tack on Barnes vs. Ezeli given the current state of what Bogut looked like against the Cavs. He looked to be closing in on 100 years of age.

Are you still adding backcourt help? or sitting out that spending too? And who's defending the frontcourt?

Are the Knicks still trying to sell the "come join Melo" angle if he misses the postseason for a third consecutive season?

No.

Knicks have cap space. They can aborg up to 150% of $33m dollars if Calderon is being moved.

Matching is only for teams over the cap.

"Lou Williams is expected to receive strong interest from teams that include the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets"

Pure speculation.

This list isn't bad, but I don't agree with Crowder as being #1... he provides defense and can move the ball but nothing else. Plus he needs to stop chucking 3's... Bargnani? Huh? only if he plays on the MLE or under. Would have added

Al-Farouq Aminu
Alexis Ajinca
Lavoy Allen
Thomas Robinson
Kyle O’Quinn

On an extended list...

Knicks should look at adding some of these guy.

I know GS woudn't do this because they whole point of shedding Lee is to pay Green and not be in luxury tax hell, but if Knicks pick up Larkin's option, they could spend ALL their cap space, and then trade Calderon, Hardaway and Larkin for Lee straight up.

Works under the non-taxpayer trade rules (150%), which the Knicks would not be even after taking $5m+ in salary with the trade.

So they could spend $27m, use the room exception and THEN flip those three for Lee, but again, I don't think GS does that to only save $5m.

i like o'quinn and Robinson - Robinson should be playing to prove himself and o'quinn looks to be a decent player with growth potential
