Heat's Josh McRoberts resumes workouts in Indiana

Post#1 » by overland » Fri Jun 12, 2015 7:50 am

Count Josh McRoberts among those back on the court this offseason for the Miami Heat, just don't count him among those who have been working out at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Sidelined since December knee surgery, McRoberts has resumed limited workouts in his native Indiana, under a program designed by the Heat, with the team's training staff assisting in his comeback.

Although he has yet to move to contact work, McRoberts is among a number of Heat players who already have begun to work ahead toward next season.

Among those who have recently worked on the Heat's practice court at AmericanAirlines Arena have been Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers, Hassan Whiteside, Shabazz Napier, Zoran Dragic, James Ennis, Tyler Johnson and Henry Walker. In addition, forward Michael Beasley has been involved in the team's offseason conditioning program at the Heat's facilities as the team weighs its option decision on Beasley that must be made by the end of the month.

"It's definitely good seeing all the guys continue to work and continue to try to get better," Napier said of the sessions at AmericanAirlines Arena. "That just means that everybody understands that no one's satisfied with what we put out there."

McRoberts, Bosh and Napier all are working past issues the cut short their seasons and contributed to the Heat's first lottery appearance in seven years.

"We haven't done a lot of competitive one-on-one stuff for me," Napier said of his recovery from April hernia surgery. "But it's just dealing with the mental part. I had surgery on my foot when I was in college, and the biggest thing was the mental part. I didn't want to play because I was scared I would get injured. It's just facing that right now and going through that."

McRoberts, Napier and Bosh, who was sidelined after the All-Star break with blood clots on his lung, all are under contract for next season. Goran Dragic, Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng, who all have player options for next season and otherwise could become free agents in July, are among those who have bypassed the workouts under coaches Erik Spoelstra, David Fizdale, Juwan Howard, Dan Craig and Chris Quinn.

More important than where he is physically working out.

I'm really worried with this injury, a big part of his game is his explosiveness. Hopefully he can get it all back..

Would be happy for us to trade him back to Indiana, but would also be happy to keep the big fella. Will be a nice addition off our scrub bench. Sad part about that article is Napier saying he is scared to play after injuries, that's not a mentallity that I want in Heat players, should be itching to come back from an injury, when the doctors tell him he's good to go. Beasley needs to trim down that weight and continue to improve his defense so that he can play alongside McRoberts at the 3, or there will be no spot for him on the team. Forgetting potential free agents that we will acquire because there will be some.

Goran Dragic / Napier / Free agent
Dwyane Wade / Draft pick / Free agent
Luol Deng / FREE AGENT / Beasley
Chris Bosh / Josh McRoberts / Free agent
Hassan Whiteside / Free agent / Birdman

Pending some of those free agents and the draft pick being sharpshooters, we could be really deadly next year if we make the right moves this offseason and have some health. AND FOR GOD SAKE GET RID OF CHALMERS!

Uhh, why would that make you happy? I see nothing Indiana has on similar salary (outside of George Hill, which seems unrealistic) that is enticing

I keep forgetting he's on our team.

We never really got to see how he fit into the team. He's actually a fairly major piece I would guess. He'd be our first big off the bench I'd think.
