If you were feeling ill before a potential workout in front of a team that could draft you 3, pretty much gtd. you more $, would you workout anyway or wait a few days until you were 100%....

Ugh, jesus christ

Dude he had an unplanned stealth workout with NYK a day before his planned workout with Philly.

Blew off Sixers with no explanation.

Next day he is on a beach somewhere yukking it up with some hip hop artist via instagram.

lts fairly obvious Mello and/or Phil Jackson attempted to steer Mello away from Philly.

Your time lines are off. And considering how pro Philly Russell has been in everything, I find it hard to believe even if your time lines weren't off.

I mean the argument is literally -- the Knicks convinced him not to work out for Philly... only then that convincing wore off?

So the Sixers draft him anyway. Then what?

I thought the forever rebuilding description of the Sixers was funny. Amazing how much the last two years has created a narrative that extends beyond it.

However, an enormous publicity campaign has been waged in the past five days by agent Andy Miller for Spanish league 7-footer Kristaps Porzingis, who had a stirring open workout in Las Vegas on Friday.

Yea. Gonna be interesting to see where he falls.

Andy Miller is definitely the MVA of the 2015 draft. Rob Pelenka won last year for his Exum campaign.

I'm really confused by this New York narrative. So they think Russell cancelled on us to go workout with the Knicks. Why would he then come back, meet and work out with us the next available day? What exactly would be the purpose of that?

I think it's possible that his illness was overstated. But if that's true, it was probably because of some sort of logistical reason (Sixers maybe had to deal with the Embiid stuff that was coming out later that day?) rather than any sort of animus on the part of Russell towards the Sixers. Otherwise he wouldn't have come back mere days later.

Anyway, New York people are aware that this is a draft right? And we are picking before them? There's no "convincing him he wants to go to NY." It doesn't matter where he wants to go. Steph Curry wanted to go to New York, they still ended up with Jordan Hill.

And even if they tried to convince him to avoid us, it clearly didn't work.

What does NY know about hoops, anyway. Most of them have to ask their grandfathers what happened when they last won a title. Name two more hopeless teams than the Nets and the Knicks. The Big Apple's vaunted basketball history is a myth.
“This may be one of the best jobs in basketball right now,” Colangelo said at a press conference introducing him as the new GM of the 76ers after Sam Hinkie resigned.

I wanted the Sixers to pick Russell in the first place, but now I want it even more so the NY fans can be disappointed that they can't pick him. Silly of them to think he would fall to them somehow.

I want Mudiay but a part of me wants the Sixers to draft Russell for the same reason you said. I don't want to see Knicks fans happy Russell slid to them. I want them pissed off wondering if someone else is going to work out. All we would hear is the the best basketball player landed at 4.
