What definition of super fight are you using? That's normal reserved for champion vs. champion - like like the much discussed Silva vs. GSP. Phil Davis has never been in a title fight. King Mo lost a Bellator interim belt bout.

I don't think "Super" quite captures the world-stalling strategies and evasion of action that those two bring when they collide head-on in the same general vicinity.

I guess i failed at my attempt of humour (LOL). Phil Davis vs. King Mo will be one of the most boring LHW title fights ever if it takes place some day. A "Super" way for me to dose off and sleep like a baby. I still respect both guys for being tremendous athletes, but i have not enjoyed a lot of their fights for the past couple of years. I still wish Davis all the best in his new home at Bellator; because in my opinion he was never going to touch the UFC LHW belt, and would have been a gatekeeper at best.

Huh.

That's a surprise.

I guess they figured Davis was never going to go on enough of a run to be a credible challenger for Jones, and would just pick off other contenders in boring fashion. Still, the guy is clearly a top 10 fighter, it's weird to just let him walk.

Bellator could put together a pretty interesting LHW tourney if they were so inclined. I mean, not interesting in that the fights would be good, but something like Coker did with HWs in Strikeforce.

Davis
Rampage (if they can keep him and get him to fight)
McGeary
Newton
Tito
Mo
Vegh
Carmont

All ranked in the top 20 LHWs on FightMatrix. I mean, yeah, I'd be fine if I never saw half of those guys fight again, but if they are going to have them all, a tournament would be kind of cool. I guess?

Hah I'm weird just because I would have enjoyed Fitch/Shields before Fitch fell off and I would watch Davis/Mo too.

Davis would beat McGeary with ease I'm guessing.

Those are all legitimate fighters - a couple really good ones - but it's uncanny how similarly uninteresting they all are. I can think of a lot of instances where those exact guys have apologized in their post-fight/in-ring interviews for the terrible performances and the lay-and-pray they've just performed. A lot of 'sorry, guys, I needed the win. I'll entertain you next time.'

Six of them are wrestlers who've converted to D grade boxers, most of those have poor KO percentages at that. Newton is a really effective fighter and a striker but so lacking in any gracefulness I just can't watch.

Bellator signs RFA champion, Ultimate Fighter alum Justin Lawrence

Now this is interesting, if Bellator can keep signing top guys from orgs like RFA...

Justin Lawrence is a really good fighter. He was just too raw during his tuf run, very young. Great signing for bellator, makes sense since he used to fight sf or sf challengers, can't remember which.

On paper, I really don't like Phil Davis. He can be super boring, and he associates with the scum Lloyd Irving. But IDK, he's just a likable guy to me. Listening to his mmahour interview now. Some great wins too, Machida/Glover/Gustaffson/Nog off the top of my head.

(he lost to Machida)

Bellator signed Guillard. So predictable, so ugh.

Got to keep getting live bodies to throw at Will Brooks. He makes as much sense as anyone else.

Will he make weight even once in his tenure? How many times will he trash bellator before the relationship crashes and burns (like every other relationship Melvin Guillard has ever had).

The good news is we can now strip people of their belt for these things, so Bellator is in a much better situation in case he beats Brooks. :)

I'm sure he will end up flaming out spectacularly, but Coker and Bellator have shown plenty of willingness to go after guys like this in the past, so I'm not surprised at all.

Brandon Halsey will be stripped of Bellator belt after missing weight before title bout

Halsey missed weight by more than three pounds Thursday for what would have been his title defense against Kendall Grove in the main event of Bellator 137 on Friday night in Temecula, Calif. The fight will go on, but the belt will be vacated if Halsey wins, per a Bellator official. If Grove wins, he will be the new Bellator middleweight champion.

...

Three other fights at Bellator 137 also had competitors miss weight, including the co-main event between Mike Richman and Eduardo Dantas. Richman was 3.2 pounds over the 136-pound welterweight maximum.

What a mess. 4 guys miss weight including the champ. Dantas fight is off, Halsey is stripped of his title...another black eye for MMA. They seem to be coming by the dozen lately.

Shamrock didn't even make the hw lower limit, is the fight okay? Weighed in 204 with his shorts on.

Kimbo didn't take his tank top off during the weigh-ins, but he looked fat as hell man. Over 20 pounds more than when he was fighting in the ufc.

Would it be nuts to throw a dollar or ten on Ken tomorrow? He could heel hook a fat Kimbo I guess. Also, the ringside decision counts, so when he pops for the juice in two weeks...no biggie.

edit: meh, Ken at 2:1, I thought he'd be 3:1 at least.

IDK, but seems nuts to bet on that fight at all really.

Spike TV planning kickboxing, MMA hybrid show for fall; Glory to partner with Bellator

A joint kickboxing and MMA show is headed to Spike TV in the fall.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Glory Kickboxing has agreed to partner with Bellator MMA for a hybrid combat sports show in September. The news is expected to be announced at a Friday press conference in St. Louis, site of Bellator 138.

The event, which is slated to take place in San Jose, Calif., will feature a Glory ring and a Bellator cage in the arena. Naturally, the kickboxing matches will take place in the ring, while the MMA fights will be held in the cage.

Among the names expected to fight on the card are Tito Ortiz, Phil Davis, Paul Daley and Joe Schilling. It's unclear at this time how many fights will take place on the card.

I thought the odds would be much better, but seems the public might be hip to fat Kimbo.

The only good thong about the Kimbo vs Shamrock fight is that one of the washed up guys is going to get a win, but seriously who cares?

The other four fights look more interesting to me...
