I can't get past this... 11 media members? How did the NBA come to decide on this random assortment of voters, and why such a small voter pool? I'm not saying it's some travesty that iggy won finals MVP, but it makes you wonder if some of these guys talked to each other beforehand to make sure lebron wouldn't win.

For the record, I would've voted for curry. I just can't help but think a larger voter pool would've been beneficial. It's bizarre.

I simply can't believe that NOBODY voted for Curry. Iguodala's only argument over him is the fact that Andre played better than his usual level of play this season was (I mean before the finals), while Curry played worse than his standards, but Curry was still a far better player.

What comedians do u guys like out of the current crop?

Louis CK is my favorite current stand-up comedian (although I'm no expert). I know some people find his jokes offensive and not everyone digs his language (he curses a lot), but if you don't mind it, he is your man.

Not to get too political here but what's with the SJWs these days that want to censor comedians? I laugh when SJWs complain about comedians being "offensive" because they didn't like the joke being made. Even a vanilla comedian like Jerry Seinfeld came out against censoring comedians recently and how he refuses to play college campuses anymore because people can't take a joke anymore.

It started when Al Sharpton got Don Imus fired for the nappy headed hoes joke (sidenote: That was a funny joke) it all started going downhill. People want others to care that they're offended nowadays and they make such a fuss it happens.

Yeah, I remember that but the worst part is that the people of our generation (I think I am a few years older than you) are the some of the worst SJWs. The younger millenials are some of the worst SJWs I have seen around. I always hear from them that "Yeah, we should just go back to the old times when you could be racist, sexist whatever" and I say there's fine a line between extreme PC-ism and being a racist, sexist, or any other ism.

The other day I was reading how professors are getting worried too that their students don't have the mental capacity anymore to hear or learn about dissenting worldviews and need "trigger warnings" for everything lol.

Per the great George Carlin:

I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke. What the exaggeration is. What the exaggeration is. Because every joke needs one exaggeration. Every joke needs one thing to be way out of proportion.

I wonder how the SJWs of today would receive him.

Social Justice Warriors, the angry mobs you see on twitter and other social media looking to police opinions and get offended at every perceived social transgression by others.

Ah. I think you have to pick your battles. I'm sure I've been accused of being a SJW before. There is a Facebook NBA group I am part of with a ton of racism, homophobia, sexism and bullying. I stand up against it when I see it, and I feel like an old grandpa at times.

No, then you are not an SJW. Calling out legit racism, sexism, homophobia etc. is not SJW-ism.

That's the distinction, SJWs are the PC police. If I say something like, "I think NBA is more fun to watch than the WNBA" on twitter I can probably expect the wrath of the SJWs and expect to get called all sorts of name in the process. That's the difference between what you do and SJWs.

Edit: The main point that I was making with comedians was that these days when they make "racist" or "sexist jokes" they are boycotted and given hell for it by SJWs. It's gotten to the point where even plain vanilla comedians like Seinfeld are speaking out against it.

I never heard the term before today either, but know what you mean. And yea, Moonbeam's stuff wouldn't count, that's similar to mods here, we (at least I) crack down on use of certain terms just b/c its really unbecoming (rape, etc.).

Pretty much. As I said a few posts above there's a fine line between calling out legit isms and being extremely PC to the point where you police others for their perceived social transgressions.

I see! There's a phrase some Aussies use, "storm in a teacup", to describe stuff like that. I get the point about comedians as well - as I see it everybody who goes to a show should be prepared for ridicule, as it should be! I was ripped a new one for being the American at a comedy show of South Africans, and I loved every minute of it. :)

Oh yeah I go to college in the south and its an issue. I was once told by an at least upper middle class white girl (she's from Alpharetta and they have money around there) that my opinion on "the N word" (I really hate that term) was invalid when I said I felt the Trayvon Martin shooting wasn't racially motivated when I was the exact same demographic as he was (the conversation strayed but I don't quite remember how).

I saw Jim Norton (don't like his stand up but he's hilarious in everything else) and Colin Quinn talking about how they couldn't perform at colleges because they'd bomb. And I also remember during my first year there was a story going around about a group of college students trying to ban books. Radical liberals somehow became the new radical conservatives socially. The conservatives had god and the family to hide their censorship behind and the liberals have feelings and hate speech.

Just finished the new season of OITNB. Its almost getting as bad as Weeds whenever Piper is on the screen I'm so happy there's good side characters. I hate main characters that aren't just their worst enemies but their only enemies.

I might actually be tempted to watch baseball if I was guaranteed that kind of inadvertent entertainment!
