Aaron Gray to retire
Joining Pistons staff. Do we get our 1.3M cap room back now?

Kind of wondering where this relationship with him and Stan came from...coaching staff?

Re: Aaron Gray to retire
it looked like he was in one of the workout vines. I forget which player it was, but there was a big goofy white guy getting rebounds that looked like gray.

Not exactly. There still should be a cap hold on his vacated roster spot.

Hopefully he has whatever cardiac issue that was giving him trouble all figured out.

Re: Aaron Gray to retire
I think Gray spent all of this past season with the team even though they waived him. He stayed around the area to get treatment from the UMich hospital and there was something from really early in the season about him wanting to actually do something for the money the Pistons were paying him.

If he retires?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: Aaron Gray to retire
We won't get any money back because he was released last season - so his transaction was complete here. If we had kept him rostered we might have some savings now.

The cap hold isn't specifically tied to Gray.
For every currently open roster spot you have, there is a cap hold. Its not much, less than a mill, but its there. If you have 15 or more players under contract, there are no such holds, otherwise, there are.

Good for him. I'm glad that the Pistons could find a safe way for Gray to stay involved in the sport he loves.

I thought it was 12?

Jersey in the rafters. Yay or nay?
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

I don't know if this is exactly accurate. You're not required to have 15 players on your roster so there shouldn't be a cap hold on every roster spot under 15.

Re: Aaron Gray to retire
^I believe it's 13 roster spots have cap holds, not 15.

Re: Aaron Gray to retire
13 sounds right. Used to be twelve when they only required 12 players per team.
