I'm not really interested in giving Mo a two year deal, but I wouldn't be mad if we did it. He's turning 33 in December.

I would rather have someone that isn't so similar to Kemba to be the backup, a pass first PG or a 3&D PG would be good IMO.

Well, he is different from Kemba in the fact that he can shoot. [BOOM]

He can do alot of stuff better than Walker. He's just old as hell, and heavy minutes kill him.

Having Brian Roberts at the beginning of the year didn't help...

If we aren't planning on bringing back Mo I'm starting to learn towards wanting to draft Payne. Aside from Kemba and Al, Mo is the only other guy on our roster with the ability to score in bunches on any given night. We need someone who can get us some points on the bench. Ideally, that guy would be Al but we all know that isn't going to happen. We need someone to fill that role though, whether it's Mo or whoever we draft. Those are pretty much our only options. And considering his age I sympathize with our front office if they're hesitiant to sign him to the MLE. That's why drafting Payne could be a good option for us.

Tyus Jones would be great for us imo, as would Payne but I hope we find a way to keep Mo. (but not at Biyombo's expense)

Kind of a misleading article title, though understandable because it's from a Cleveland publication.

From the article:

However, due to their own pending powerhouse free agents, the Cavaliers will be limited in what they can offer. All they will have at their disposal is the taxpayer mid-level exception and the veteran's minimum. Williams is seeking a multiyear deal, and the Cavaliers and Hornets are two of the teams at the top of his wish list, a source revealed.

From this article:

The Hornets have non-Bird rights with Williams, so they could give him a 20% raise without dipping into another exception. Charlotte is also likely to have the $5.434MM non-taxpayer’s mid-level at its disposal.

Mo is turning 33 in December and has a lot of miles. I'm a little nervous about a multi-year deal, though I guess with all the cap space we'll have next summer it won't be a big deal then. Ultimately the question is whether our MLE is better spent elsewhere.

So, if I understand the CBA correctly, we can offer Mo either (1) up to $4.7M because of his non-Bird rights or (2) up to $5.4M because of our non-taxpayer MLE.

By contrast, the most CLE can possibly offer Mo is $3.4M, and that will remove their flexibility to sign any other players except to vet minimum deals.

That sounds about right. Honestly it would be far better for the team to get him back on non-bird.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I think Mo is at that ring chasing stage of his career, i think he would take a pretty good discount from the Cavs.

How much playing time is Mo really going to get in Cleveland behind Kyrie and Delly. Obviously he is a better offensive player than Delly, but they need Delly's defense. Kyrie and Mo can't defend anyone.

I don't know how much it is off the top of my head, but if that $3.4m is the Taxpayers MLE then that looks right.

Mo's perspective: shot at a ring
Cavs' perspective: appease LeBron

Spot-on. If Lebron wants Mo and Mo is willing to take the necessary discount to make the numbers match he will be a Cav. Even if Blatt prefers Delly it's not like Cleveland management hasn't signed guys the HC has no interest in playing before just to appease Lebron (Mike Miller).

Cleveland's management has to make sure Lebron stays happy this season and then signs a long deal when the cap jumps next summer. Mo Williams is not the hill they want to die on.

They can't do S&Ts- they're going to be so far above the luxury tax that it isn't even funny.

I'm really leaning towards wanting to draft Payne with our pick. Outside of Okafor, Russell, and Kaminsky he's the most offensively talented player in this draft at a position of need. He's a decent shooter and his playmaking is seriously impressive. He's skinny as heck, but his 6'7 wingspan gives him overall good size at point. His court vision is comparable to Chris Paul's but without the athleticism to match. He's the type of player that makes his teammates much better offensively than they otherwise would be, which is a hand in glove fit for this team.
