To be fair, Kemba hasn't seen a dime of that $48 million, though I'd say he's outperformed the rookie deal that paid him a little under $10.7 million combined over the last four years.

But yeah, next year is huge with him carrying that pricetag.

Here's some fun with stats, this is a list of where we've ranked in terms of offensive efficiency since the expansion...

2014-15 - 3rd worst
2013-14 - 7th worst
2012-13 - 3rd worst
2011-12 - The worst
2010-11 - 6th worst
2009-10 - 7th worst
2008-09 - 4th worst
2007-08 - 8th worst
2006-07 - 8th worst
2005-06 - 6th worst
2004-05 - 4th worst

I know that everyone knows we've never been a good offensive team, but that is just dreadful. Our offense has never been better than the 8th worst in the league! I know defense wins and all, but it would be nice if we just didn't neglect the offensive side of the ball when building the roster/coaching staff, for once.

Wow, we've never even broken out of the bottom third. I would've thought the year we had J-Rich going bananas... but 8th worst that year too?

No more Hendersons, no more Marvins, no more Robertses. We need PURE SHOOTING role players. Tolliver was the perfect example.

Basketball is over. No sports are on that I truly care about. I need a damn stats project or something during the offseason.

I've tried to force myself to check out baseball for that very reason but can't do it.

I used to LOVE baseball Was my first love. I watched the Braves every single night when I was younger. Eat, sleep, and breathed it. I haven't watched an inning this year. I just cant bring myself to do it anymore. It's too slow, it's too boring.

That sums me up entirely. McGriff, Justice, Gant, Glavine, Maddux. Even ol Blauser and Lemke. I loved the Braves and baseball up until around 2000.

I go to Tourist games on thirsty Thursdays. I don't watch much of the game though

Same here. Watched the Braves religiously as a kid in the 80s and early 90s - Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Chris Chambliss (Chamblast when he hit a home run) all the way thru the Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz years. I haven't watched baseball in over a decade.

I should still have all the categories from the Scavenger Hunt we never did last summer. Maybe we can get that cranked up after the draft.

I have the Australian Rules Football League during the summer here - which keeps me fairly entertained (nothing like being at home and being amongst it though).

I'm thinking about giving the CFL a real go this summer as well. Ottawa has a team back in the league again (the Ottawa Redblacks - DUMBEST team name EVER) so thought I would try and get behind them and get to a few home games.

Used to watch the Braves all the time, was nice when they came on TBS like every day. I still like playing and going to games in person, but watching on TV is just too slow now.

The wife and I are currently at the beach with my grandparents...we've watched the Braves game each of the last 3 nights here. More than I've watched in years.

How about those Dockers this year? I watched their game last weekend. First time I've seen them as the televised game of the week this year.

I used to be a huge fantasy baseball nerd, especially in college when I had the time. But since I've stopped playing, I couldn't care less about baseball.

Considering watching some games from this past year and looking at stuff. Don't know if I wanna put myself through that torture though.

Been thinking a bit about the blocks vs. rim protection discussion we've been having here and there mostly about Biz but also some other folks, and came across this article on nylon calculus.

Tracking makes and misses rather than blocks and “not blocks” allows for these finer determinations of ‘changed’ as well as blocked shots. In fact, once FG% allowed is the measure being used, the “block” stat itself has very little usefulness – a blocked shot has no chance of going in. That’s plenty valuable already, and there is little need to add on an extremely blunt, often subjective counting stat to the mix on top of that “guaranteed miss”. Comparing more detailed rim protection with raw block rate helps illustrate just how imperfect the box score can be on this front:

Image

A few notes on the chart: The fit isn’t actually that bad, about 60% of the variation in rim protection value is explainable through shot blocks. This shouldn’t be that surprising as adding an extra “0%” shot or two into the attempts a player defends can’t do anything but help overall. Looking at some individual players, Davis is an interesting case simply because he blocks more jumpers away from the basket than just about any other big. While these are neat, they also aren’t quite as valuable, considering the expected return on a midrange pull up is about .8 points per shot as compared to about 1.5 points per shot on a layup. A hybrid big/wing like James Johnson suffers a similar fate. It’s probably no surprise to see players like Biyombo, Whiteside and, protestations of Doc Rivers to the contrary, Jordan as being mildly to moderately overrated by raw blocks, while savvy defenders like Bogut, Hibbert and Duncan appear mildly underrated. Editorializing further, surprising names with low block numbers, but high rim protection indicators like Zeller and Speights are probably decent candidates either for a sharp regression to the mean next season due to small sample sizes or are benefiting from other contextual factors making them appear more effective individually than might actually be the case.

Source

Just thought that was interesting. I find myself growing more and more convinced that pointing to raw block totals to determine defensive impact is a bit of a flawed perspective.

Not even MKG's defense could neutralize the utter futility of Kemba+Lance playing together, Lance+Jefferson playing together, and Marvin Williams+Jefferson [not] defending the paint together.
