Jennings to me is talented but kind of flaky, both professionally and personally. I don't want to build my team with someone like him at the point. It's a big leap to think Jennings can be that post-Smith player over the long haul. That's a small sample size vs. a checkered career. His on-court game is somewhat selfish and seems to lack some grit. His off-court personality is very TMZ.
All that said, I'd still take a shot with him as sixth man or even paired with Reggie occasionally next season. I just don't want him as the heartbeat of the team.
OKC offered Jackson 4/48 when he wasn't even a regular starter. That says a lot to me.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

We don't have that information right now- and may not for another year, as it will take him time to regain whatever form he is capable of.
I'll take Reggie Jackson. Simply due to him being healthy.
Apologies i could of worded the question so much better. What i was trying to get the opinion of was would you rather Jennings or Jackson Injurys aside so Jennings Pre Injury. A Hypothetical if Jennings did come back the same Jennings which as you say who knows at this point.
To what end does debating a pre-injury Jennings have merit? Jennings, for that brief period, was playing like a top 5 PG. Was he turning a corner, or just on a hot streak? There's years of evidence to support that it was just a hot streak, but then again, Stan's system seems to elevate the output of his point guards. The sad truth is that we'll never know.
Im only using the pre injury form as part of my question that hypothetically if he comes back toward the end of next season is showing strong play again without any issues physically who do you turn to as future PG.

I think you defer to the bigger objective- Andre Drummond. RJ was building some fantastic chemistry with him. If RJ's long bombing can stay at league average or better, it will probably push Stan that direction. Especially as Jennings can walk next summer.

Jennings was playing some great ball offensively before the injury, but his defensive limitations make it a no brainer. There are just so many great pg's in the league right now that you can't afford minus backcourt defenders.

I must say i was pleasantly surprised how quickly Dre and Reggie seemed to connect on the court. A Pre season training camp can only help them as well, cant wait to see them next season (I would be shocked if Reggie is not in a pistons uniform next season)

Agreed and there wasn't going to be a spot opening up at the point anytime soon for the thunder for obvious reasons. clearly highly rated

Reggie definitely has him covered on the defensive side another reason Stan would take Reggie.Billl wrote:Jennings was playing some great ball offensively before the injury, but his defensive limitations make it a no brainer. Re: Healthy Jennings or Jackson?
Reggie is the future. He's more of a two-way player and his game is more predicated on getting to the rim rather than relying on hot shooting.
Add that to the fact that he's our RFA while Jennings expires to become a UFA in a year and I think it's pretty clear he's the choice.

You could say the same about Jackson honestly.Laimbeer wrote:Jennings to me is talented but kind of flaky, both professionally and personally. I'd like to give Jennings a shot still, it looked like he was finally going to turn his career around. Jackson doesn't excite me at all, he's a really average player overall. Poor shooter, average finisher, not an impact defender, good passer and ball handler, but hardly a stand out compared to the rest of the league's starting PGs. Jennings is a worse finisher and defender but he brings a threatening jump shot and a bit more creativity in the passing game. We could succeed with either of these guys starting (assuming Jennings makes a full recovery, which we can't assume), so I'm just hoping that we don't pay Reggie too much.
