Question about Jennings

Post#1 » by bleedblue3303 » Mon Jun 22, 2015 7:05 pm

Hey guys Knicks fan here. Was curious with the new talk about a potential deal between Knicks and Pistons involving Timmy Jr and Jennings. Was wondering if my analysis of Jennings is right or wrong. Figured I would come to the people who watched him the most. I argued on the Knicks board that last year before the injury Jennings was having the best year of his career. He seemed like he finally was starting to get it. He just needed a strong system and strong minded coach with experience like Van Gundy to get him to buy in.
was I right in my thinking. I know some of the knocks on him have been shot selection, turn overs and zero d. But I thought that was all down since Van Gundy took over.

any comments would be appreciated.

Jennings has responded well to good coaching. He was playing pretty well under Cheeks, but when Cheeks was fired mid season it left Loyer who was a trainwreck and Brandon regressed badly. Under SVG he again was responding very well to Stan's coaching, but he tore his Achilles mid season and was done. I wouldn't say zero D, but he likes steals and gambles a lot to try to play passing lanes. After his play last season, it seemed a lot of Pistons fans pulled a 180 on him and view him as one of the most misunderstood and underrated players in the game, he's got very strong natural PG instincts, came into the league very young and has had a never ending coach rotation leaving him forced to learn new systems frequently.

In the time between Josh Smith being cut and his injury, Jennings was playing unbelievably well. Easily the best he's played in his career.
His defense is never solid. He gambles on steals and all that, but during that time his offense was on point.

As far as the rumored trade, i don't think there's much too it.

Jennings has been a pleasant surprise in terms of his attitude and work ethic. He really bought into the system and worked hard to do what the coach wanted on offense. He got on a hot streak and looked incredible offensively. When he's "on", he's an incredible scorer. He's also an underrated passer with great vision.

Of course, he's also undersized and not strong enough to finish in traffic. He falls in love with the jump shot and struggles when guys get physical with him. He's also overmatched physically on defense most night and tends to gamble to try to make up for it.

Would you guys do jennings for bennet.I know the kid busted being the #1 pick and played horrible at first, but he did go down avg something like 9-8-2.I think he could turn into a decent player ,maybe a starter if he gets the right coaching.I would take the gamble,if he can put it together, theres your starting pf.

I'd rather trade for a picture of Anthony Bennett than Anthony Bennett.

 well said...even if we did trade for him, he'd still play 2nd string behind Ersan...

Not interested, and I think he could be had for less than Jennings.

Probably third string behind Tolliver to be honest.

He had like 16 games where he looked like a legit all-star. Take from that what you will. *shrug*

If Bennet could be had for a minimal asset like a second, I'd take a look at him. I wouldn't want to give up anything too good.

He has the talent,it seems his confidence was shot being a 1st and coming in over weight due to injury, seems like hes coming around. It wouldnt be a big risk for an injured jennings and if he did finally piece it all together,he would be fighting Ersan for the starting spot.
