great news, navarro cleaning up! but honestly, i think martin is a little banged up after taking that foul ball off the inside of his left foot -- where he actually looked kind of hurt, because i couldn't imagine just giving him another day off just 'cause. donaldson also gets a blow.

Injuries starting to pop up again, pitching coming back to Earth, the Rays are hot and we're at the Trop.

Historically this is about the time we go into a nice little tailspin, lose the offense for a week and get swept a couple of times.

Ugh, that's a weak lineup. Good thing the Rays have a mediocre pitcher going tonight. Even with that, I don't see us scoring more 4-5 runs. Hutch better be on his game. The pen could use a breather as well.

Dickey is making the start Tuesday.

Ugh, the Trop is the worst field to play at. Not only because we suck there historically, so do the fans. Hope we can squeak out one.

Donaldson and Martin are not playing today because a "break will benefit them in the long run", even though you're about to face a division rival who you are trying to catch in the standings and there is an off-day Thursday.

I need a mental break from the Jays.

Indeed. Don't have a problem with giving my star players a day off, but two in the same game, against a team ahead of us in the standings? Peculiar.

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

donaldson's legs are in rough shape and we can marginally afford to see him hit the DL, but it's OK let's run him to the ground despite this and then blame AA/Gibby/training staff for being all cryptic about it and not disclose the full extent of what he's dealing with. but hey! we don't need them to confirm anything anyway since we all know donaldson is certainly fit to play everyday and doesn't need a day off. classic.

Showalter rested Adam Jones , smart move by an experienced coach. Gibbons rests Donaldson, fire him.

lol you guys speak like navvaro isn't a solid hitter. good to see goins getting a day off...this lineup is decent.

the real question mark is how will hutch perform?

I've got no problem with resting Donaldson. But doing it against a team we're trying to catch in the standings and in a ballpark where we've traditionally struggled doesn't make a lot of sense. We've got a day off Thursday and a series against Texas starting Friday. I'd have rather given Donaldson Friday's game off (or Wednesday's game off depending on how we do during the first two games against the Rays). That way he gets two straight days of rest.

I'm assuming they're both very banged up to miss time in this series.

sometimes your better of trusting the manager to make the right call. he has assess to the trainers and Donaldson they know whats going on.

Yeah, I agree. But I'm guessing that something more serious is up with Donaldson for him to miss a game in this series.

ok but how do you know:

a) he isn't fit to play TODAY which they would know better than anyone here
b) he didn't ask for a day off himself -- something we know he's done before

i'd rather play donaldson tonight too, but let's not act like we know anything about his current physical form here. the guy has played more innings than anyone else in the entire league for chrissakes.

I'm just going by what we're told by Gibbons. Which is that a break would benefit both Martin and Donaldson in the long run. As fans, we can only go off what we're told by the team.
