They timed their jump wrong and they surrounded Cousins with the wrong players. They messed up.

Trading Cousins isn't a mistake, it's actually a way to have a do over with high picks and a selection of players.

Hard pill to swallow though

Lawson in on the twitter action now too, pity he deleted his tweet...

I guess a Denver trade is probably out of the equation then!

They should just trade Karl for Malone. The owner should fess up and admit he blew it last year.

I feel badly for Kings fans. This is the typical new money businessman who does well in business A, decides he knows "business," and then tries to reinvent business B. He fired Malone and hired Karl without a replacement GM in place. Reportedly, the owner wants to retain Boogie and play an uptempo style of offense. A competent GM would have told him that if Malone was going and he wanted to go up tempo, that Boogie should go as well. His new coach wants established players for Boogie which all but guarantees that the the Kings will lose the trade. Everything the Kings are doing is reactive and nothing they are doing is proactive. There doesn't appear to be a plan in place or an appreciation of what it will take to get there. They are basketball version of the Cleveland Browns.

If WOJ said it, it must be true. I cant believe the Kings are seriously thinking about it, and for veteran players smh. I just hope Morey can get in on some of that action since the Kings are going full....Kings. Collision for Prigi and Jones. Make it happen Morey.

Exactly what I was thinking. This should go down real smooth.

My guess is whomever can work a trade with Denver to get Lawson to the Kings is going to land him.

George Karl is out of his mind... Cousins at 24 years old is already a top 10 player today... Probably even in the top 7. More dominant than Griffin, more moves than Marc and as tenacious as Westbrook. A top 2 big man in the entire NBA. That's probably something Okafor and Towns will never amount to.

Say what you will, but Karl has proven he can win 50+ games with Lawson, Faried, a good SF, and a decent SG, even with a backup quality center starting most games.

I do not know why people are so surprised, Karl wants to run, Cousins is most effective in a half court game, a bad fit, and a coach that can change his system but truly believes that winning in today's nba requires playing fast and efficient, the owner wants to play fast like the Warriors. So why is anybody surprised that Karl is wanting to trade a center that does not want to play fast and is not the most efficient player?

For those saying that Karl just hates Cousins, I doubt that is true, Karl was trying to convince the Nuggets to trade for Cousins everytime rumors came out that Cousins was available while Melo was still in Denver, it has been confirmed numerous times in the local media that Karl wanted Cousins badly. However if the rumors are true that Malone was fired for not running, and Karl was brought in to make the Kings a running team, what is Karl supposed to do if Cousins is not interested in running?

What if Karl leaked the rumors and put out all this circus to be fired, and get paid while staying at home?

Just kiddin', but not too much..

Lawson and Karl were close enough that they were reportedly still texting or talking everyday up until Karl was hired by the Kings, people are reading way to much into a tweet that happened months after Karl was fired in Denver.

As for Igoudala, after what he pulled in Denver he may be talking about himself, he was likely the biggest snake around Denver when he was here.

Also Jr was pissed as he thought the Nuggets were his team when Melo was traded, and the Nuggets did not even bother to offer him a contract.

Ok so who are contenders for boogie? a guy who is easily a franchise center piece at this very moment, a guy who has been riddled with bad coaching and management? can ainge swing this?

Pure speculation here but:

The Lakers could trade Clarkson, Randle, and #2 pick for Cousins

Package around Smart, Sullinger, and two first round picks for Cousins

Vucevic, Payton, and #5 pick for Cousins

Horford, Teague, and #15 pick for Cousins

I imagine if the Kings actually put Cousins on the market, 2/3s of the NBA GMs would be fielding calls to the Kings.

The 2 I bolded are probably the best ones. The Celtics have many picks but they aren't high lottery...simply first rounders. So that deal wouldn't excite me.
If they want to rebuild, the Lakers deal isn't awful.

And I def agree. With this news coming out, the majority of the teams out there are going to call them with offers and ideas.

You always know the mark of a dysfunctional franchise when they can't keep a single thing quiet. This is the kind of thing that NEVER should have gotten out in public. That Kings owner needs to get his house in order.

I can't see Karl or Divac wanting to trade the most dominant post player in the league, especially with the growth in maturity he showed last year.

As usual, I smell Vivek's involvement in this. He has never shown an once of patience in his decision making process, so he's likely frustrated that his team is not capable of making the playoffs right now. He's looking for a completely new team already.
