Never heard of the first three guys. Not a big horror movie fan (they rarely scare me, usually can only disgust me), or a fan of horror literature. I do love Steven King though. Great underrated author.
Anne Rice, well, its not very well written, but I guess the mythos she created is impressive (obviously I'm not a Rice fan, haha).
Euonia is a great collection by a decent new poet if anyone here reads poetry (lmao, yeah I know no one does just on the off chance).
Oh, and yeah, Tatiana is fiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnneeeeee as neutrinos

I'm a huge George Martin/fantasy/Sci fi fan. Working with authors in those genres or any prominent poets is my dream. Plus asoiaf could use some better editing the way Feast and Dance ended up. If you're also a fan, I encourage you to read Dreamsongs part one and two. Amazing short stories. A few are better than asoiaf in ever way. Nightflyers is my personal fav.
I'll post it when I am allowed to on the media thread. Probably not too exciting a subject/author for most here though.
Still nothing from Karl Lithgow. Not a word. Strange.
Congrats, mate!![]()
Sounds like you're definitely more lifted than I, lmao.
Read any of Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller series?
No, but a friend recently finished The Name of the Wind and had harsh criticism. This guy doesn't have a great understanding of writing, but he's intelligent, an avid reader of high quality stuff, and a bigger fantasy fan than I (prefer scifi). I was shocked as almost everyone who has recommended the series to me has excellent taste and literary understanding. Perhaps he missed something. I should really check it out now that I have a ton of free time. You enjoyed the whole series?
Anyone here watch the show Orphan Black? Cool BBC show about clones. Finale was wild last Saturday.
Also, just finished the War of the Roses (about the Plantagenets and Tudors, etc). Great, quick read.
I've read the first two books, Name of the Wind and Wise Man's Fear. I thought both were pretty interesting reads. The storytelling/legend/myth making aspect of the story is fascinating and I think it does a pretty excellent job of weaving in poetic elements as well as layering in a lot of plot twists, mythic characters, creatures, parables and small wisdoms, power struggles, and of course a love element.
It also sort of plays at something mundane with a lot of the barroom scenes and the dialogue between Kvothe, the main character and his friends at "university"... some of it is pretty amusing in the wittiness and pettiness of the young Kvothe. It's a pretty tragic story too.
I love the books... can't wait to get at the third. Very lengthy though.
Sets up for a pretty interesting third book. Lots of questions remain unanswered

700 pages isn't long after the thousands of pages of **** I read and edit all year. Not a speed reader but I read at a (rough estimate) pace of 15-17 pages per hour. Ill cop it tomorrow and let you know my thoughts soon (ish). Sounds cool, I think my friend probably missed something

Laymon would disgust you and Ketchum would scare the sh$$ out of you. Horror is so much scarier on paper than on the screen. I like rice, more for the world she created than her individual novels.
Koontz-"Intensity" remains one of the best horror fiction novels I've ever read.

Oh True Detective. What have you done?
I'm intrigued by Vaughn's character and Mcadams looks yummy. Outside of that, this season might be a train wreck.
Speaking of train wrecks. Amy Schumer's new movie (of the same name) looks fantastic!
You know it's a slow on rumors when you're posting in this thread on draft day.

This almost fell to the second page after the fallout from bizarro draft. Bumping to to keep it prominent.

I just wanted to show you something made by a polish musician.
I think it's great. Maybe you've saw it or heard about it. But if not than i think it's worth checking.

He made a project with polish raper but it's in polish so that's the reason why I'm not posting. The whole project is great imho.

Patrick Macnee, star on one of my all-time favourite TV series (The Avengers), has died.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-33279566
A few years ago I bought the series on DVD (well, just the Diana Rigg era) and watched the whole thing again. It was still as inventive and different as it was in the late '70s when I had "discovered" the show, during one of their re-runs. Highly recommended.
R.I.P. Mr. Steed.

Saw this yesterday Ex. I never would have thought that "so so so so so so sad" could have been an understatement, but boy was it. My word. That was a tough watch. However, excellent movie. You go into it expecting it to follow the typical Hollywood formula and it takes a completely different direction. Also, it does it with a nice touch of humor.

Hip-hop fans: give Skyzoo's Music for My Friends a listen. Best hip-hop album of 2015 so far. Easily.

Also, told you guys season two of True Detective couldn't hold up to season one
T-bone continues to kill the soundtrack though.

I mean, it's not really a fair bar to hold it to. Season 1 was one of my favorite singular TV seasons of all time.
I think it's only fair to say, is season 2 a good season of television, yes or no? That said, the jury is certainly still out on that one. Episode one felt like it was trying really hard to be season one. Felt like it was trying to be overly tense and serious before building anything of actual substance. It also felt disconnected, probably due to it having 4 main characters. I think things are starting to pick up a bit, but it still does feel a bit forced. I enjoyed definitely episode 2 more so I will continue to watch. Hopefully things pull together and we are pleasantly surprised.

Nic is a genius writer imo. I have no doubt the season will be great and actually have enjoyed it immensely so far. It's just that season 1 was basically a literature like masterpiece (as you said).
So yeah, with my expectations tempered, I'm still looking forward to the season.
Agree about the four characters part too. Spreads stuff very thin. I miss the laser focus of season 1.

Valid-Sick album. This from a guy that can hardly stomach modern hip hop. Suicide Doors, Luxury and Playing Favorites are probably my favorites. Truth be told, there's only one or two tracks I'd even skip.
Truth-wtf happened at the end of episode 2? Lmao. No spoiler, but that was some crazy sht.
A few guilty pleasures the last few weeks.
1.-Jaheim released a new single. I know. Lol.
2.-Miguel and Lyfe Jenning's new albums are pretty good as well.
3.-Can't stand te new song by Em, but my word the movie he wrote it for looks crazy good ("Southpaw").
Has anyone checked out Leon Bridges yet? My man is blazing.

Best George Martin story ever on Dreamsongs is Sandkings - just awesome.
If you like grittier Fantasy, Joe Abercrombie First Law trilogy is pretty good and Best Served Cold is fantastic. I also loved Lies of Lock by Lynch and plan to read sequels this summer.
I also like Name of Wind but book 3 needs to be a grand slam and I'm not sure it will be. If you like him, Brandon Sanderson Mistborn and Steelheart series are similar quality.
Most fun SciFi I've read recently was Ready Player One which is similar idea to the classic Snow Crash but more entertaining.
Just watched The Kingsmen last night and it was better than any James Bond movie I've seen (but admittedly I don't love bond movies.). Pretty violent but pure fun.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
