The NRA doesn't control the laws governing guns... You do. If enough voices are raised in objection to current laws, someone will step up and write effective legislation to better control guns, and then you can vote for it... NRA is a vocal minority...

That said, there are a lot of people preaching 'gun control' right now, but I never seem to hear what specifically that means, and more importantly, how it differs from existing laws.
I've always been of the opinion that even in a society where guns are banned, bad people will find a way to get them and kill people with them.

And to be clear there are stats that support both sides of the argument. So it isn't a clear issue.

California has stiffer gun control laws than Texas, but I've never felt as at risk of gun violence anywhere I've been in Texas as I have in several parts of Ca... So maybe it isn't just a gun issue.

From my time in America, I've learnt that gun ownership is as much an integral part of the freedom as the first amendment and the right to vote for a majority of American citizens. So gun control won't pass even the first hurdle. The best you can hope for is state level legislation but then again, there are people who go to Mexico to purchase contraband so crossing a state line won't be an issue.

Best you can probably get is metal detectors at all public gatherings, schools and universities.

im sure people will complain that then were turning into a nanny state then. as someone who has been interested in purchasing a handgun recently, its just way too easy to get one in this country, it's ridiculous.

you are very mistaken if you believe this. the amount of money the NRA spends compared to every gun control group combined is like 3x as much. they have the most influence by far of any gun control/gun rights interest group in DC.

I think you are confused about what the term minority means. Of course they have influence... But 'the masses' have more. And judging from the NRA's membership, they aren't 'the masses.'

that would just be a firefight, all the nra people would have guns too

and that would strengthen the nra's argument if anything, "think of the damage that would have occurred if we didn't all have guns"

i think that there are more peaceful ways to do things. i understand why in the current world there is a need for some use of violence, and even in a "perfect" world there would be a need, but i think that logical resolutions are more likely the answer, and murdering isn't logical to me.

that assumes that the masses are involved politically, which they are not. so we can only look at the people that actually are, not everyone.

That's my point... Don't blame the NRA... Get involved.

But the truth of the matter is most people's outrage dies at just about the same point action is required.

Damn this retrenchment is almost done. I feel sick for almost a week now. At least I know I'm safe for now.
