As for Batum (not considering contract or that we bailed on Vonleh), he really is a damn great fit for our team. He and MKG will be hellashish on the wings defending all over the floor. Plus he gives us another passer to initiate the offense and let Kemba play off the ball.

But not happy he only has 1 year on deal (and we will have to give him a big deal to keep him if he plays well).

I have a feeling this will fall through. I'm really just hung up on batum having an expiring. Vonleh looked phone dead in a new city at night lost las year but he does have a lot of upside. This must mean Portland knows Aldridge is gonna walk.

the fact that MKG can guard 1-3, it doesn't worry me if he's paired with a sf.

MJ just ordered Cho to win or die and Cho dealt away a kid who needs 4 years.

The trade indicates Al and Kemba are safe.

Welcome to my hell. Reeks of "make the playoffs or you're done." We trade our youngest, probably highest-potential player because they don't think he could contribute to the playoffs in the time Cho has left.

whats the cap implications of this?

Not much to be honest. We went from slightly over the cap to about $3m over, so unless we move Al or Marvin we're just not gonna have space.

Yes, I think a draft night trade is brewing here. Before the last hour I would have said we trade down. Now i'm thinking up.

Instead of drafting a rookie 4 with our pick, I can completely see them trading the 9th pick, and maybe Zeller for a legit starting 4, and skipping the whole rookie stuff.

No idea who that 4 would be

I wonder if Chad Buchanan had something to do with this...he was Portlands assistant GM.

If we don't resign Batum, we have a **** ton of cap space to spend next year and even if we do resign we will still have a lot of cap room.

I wonder if Diaw has hit up Batum and told him where all the good restaurants and segway dealers are

It could kill our space if we resign Batum next season or this could become an even worse trade if we let him walk. We dropped a little bit next season from Vonleh but not enough to make a big difference.

Al Jefferson is safe. You can take that to the bank.

Yeah, the first guy we should have traded is probably the only safe one, smh

Well Batum is an expiring, but so is Hendo. Noah had 3 years left at like $2.5m before becoming a RFA. So the savings are negligible. But then we're gonna have to give Batum the max next offseason just to save face.

I was really high on Vonleh. Sucks to lose him. I really like Batum, but he's an expiring. Pretty much losing Vonleh for nothing in the end.

Everyone wants Cho fired. I'll say this, there is one GM id love to get in Charlotte: Danny Ferry. Yeah he may have "character" concerns but he did a hell of a job in ATL. He can put a winner together.

You would love that wouldn't you? No more MKG to kick around. Who would be left for you to complain about? Certainly not Kemba or Lamb.

Maybe you'd love it as well (depending on the return, of course).

I doubt it. As guys on the radio said earlier today, even of you don't like MKG, trading him now would be bad business. If you view him as an asset (or think of him as a stock), it would be foolish to trade him now. MKG will most certainly improve next year and the year after. His value as an asset is only going to go up.

Plus, I think you will never get in return what MKG is really worth, because what he brings to a team is hard to quantify.
