Valenti: Pistons like Hezonja, Oubre - cool on Johnson

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Thu Jun 25, 2015 1:15 am

Assuming Winslow is gone, he said he had sources telling him the Pistons top choice is Hezonja if he is available, or Oubre if he's not. Said both have star potential. Called Johnson limited, safe pick and compared him to Jason Maxiell.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Eh, I'm not going to buy into this just because it fits with what I'd prefer (though I dunno how much more I like Oubre than Johnson), especially since I called BS on the "we've zeroed on on Johnson" talk.

If we know anything at all it's stuff doesn't get leaked to the local sports guys.

Valenti is fun to listen to, but he is an absolute moron when it comes to sports, or understanding them, especially the NBA. No way anyone has told him anything.

If we do end up selecting oubre, it signals that we are indeed targeting a pretty damn good SF in free agency, as oubre won't be ready for 2 years, if he ever is. Lazy player, with talent, but isn't exactly a physical specimen.

Yeah hard to really take Valenti to serious. One thing for sure though is he will talk **** about anyone we take regardless of who it is. He's still just a Celtic homer after all.

I'm glad that we're all in agreement here that Valenti should not be taken seriously

Dude craps on anything the Piston's do and has for years...a lot of it justified because of Dumars..
That said he did about pop a radio boner over the Ilyasova trade...loved it..which was unusual for him..
NO ONE should take what he says to serious or at all for that matter lol

You guys sure it wasn't a joke? Yesterday he was cracking up at and making fun of a Mock Draft because it had us taking Oubre at 8. Maybe he's still just poking fun at that a day later.

I think Valenti is usually spot on with his sports knowledge and opinions, I wonder how many of you are just Wolverine homers and that's why you're hating on him. He doesn't often come out and say he has a source with inside info so when he does I tend to buy into it.

I like him, He's definitely one of the most entertaining people on the radio. But he's definitely a hater on Detroit sports.

The goofs over at 97.1 have no clue about the NBA. I don't buy it at all.

I agree with pretty much everything he has to say outside of NBA basketball and the Piston's in particular. He's a great radio personality for sure.

He doesn't talk about the NBA much, I remember him not liking Stuckey so he has some credibility right there lol. He also thought signing Josh Smith was an awful idea, he liked Jennings potential but he was very iffy on bringing him in, just like all of us. He liked the Ilyasova deal and we're at least 90% agreed on that on this board. So what has he said about the Pistons that wasn't true?

It doesn't really matter what you think about Valenti. Nobody has sources in the Pistons organization that have been proven reliable. Ford had some when Dumars was still around but that's not the case anymore (and Joe was probably the source anyways).
