Just dumping salary? I hope not. I really wonder why Presti paid the luxury tax last year. All he had to do was send Novak somewhere else.

Financially speaking: Lamb+Jones ($3.331 million) is roughly equal to Barnes ($3.396 million)

Hopefully we aren't gifting both players to Charlotte. I'm no expert, as I'm not sure how it would the financials need to work in this scenario.

M'kay. Wanna save money? Don't trade for Dion Waiters.

I will never understand that move. It is the only thing Presti has ever done that I can not see any possible reason why he made the move. I couldn't see any reason to do it at the time and I still can't. Waiters is a negative player and there was no reason to add him and help facilitate a deal for Cleveland.

ESPN is saying they're getting Barnes's contract. Sadly I assume they cut him.

Can we at least swap 2nd round picks?

Hello. I've already seen where Lamb supposedly has a terrible work ethic. Anyone care to enlighten me anymore about his game?

Thanks

It's worse. He's being dumped.

Inconsistent, not great at anything, supposedly a shooter but really just average at it, looks like a below average defender but metrics say he's okay. Overall he's an okay bench player right now and could be better than that if he gains confidence and hits jumpers consistently. He's better than Dion Waiters right now, despite not getting a lot of opportunities. I think you'll be happy with him as long as you don't expect him to be prime time ready.

I would assume Novak had to be a part of this too, right? Surely we're not just saving 2 million dollars here.

@anthonyVslater: Nothing official coming from the Thunder tonight on Jeremy Lamb reports. Possible there are some draft night moving parts.

Previous reports indicated that the Thunder would receive the non-guaranteed contract of Matt Barnes in exchange for Lamb, with OKC immediately waiving Barnes to shed salary. But neither Barnes nor his contract is coming to OKC, The Oklahoman has learned. The Thunder is in pursuit of a draft pick for Lamb, although his lack of playing time over the past three seasons has sabotaged his trade value.

Charlotte owns the ninth overall pick in Thursday’s draft, as well as the 39th overall selection. The Thunder, however, isn’t expected to receive either of those picks. The more likely scenario under the proposed deal is Charlotte sending OKC a future draft pick.

In addition to cutting the roster from the maximum of 15 players to 14 and opening a spot for any potential player the team might draft Thursday night, this move also allows the Thunder to shed approximately $3 million from its payroll. That money would then be set aside to help the Thunder in its stated goal of re-signing restricted free agents Enes Kanter and Kyle Singler.

By cutting ties with Lamb, the Thunder’s total savings next season could be upward of $6 million when its tax computations are figured in. That money, though, would be reinvested in Kanter and Singler.

With 2013 second-round draft pick Alex Abrines waiting in line over in Spain, the Thunder also decluttered the roster some for the shooting guard to make his way to Oklahoma City, which the Thunder is expected to make happen before the start of the 2016-17 season.

For the Thunder, this numbers game is expected to continue, with more moves possibly coming during Thursday night’s draft or potentially lingering into the start of training camp. Either way, the Thunder would have to move one more player on the current roster in order to bring in this year’s draft pick and Josh Huestis, last year’s first-round selection. Reserve forwards Perry Jones and Steve Novak are the two next most-likely candidates to be moved.

There's no way they give 9. That said, hey it opened a roster spot, disappointed w/ the return but its over.

Maybe 9 for 14, lamb, 48, and a future pick?

It would have to be a future 2nd, so I don't think there's a lot of point including that. I think we just accept that it's not going to happen, we're picking 14th and out of the range of impact players.

If we hadn't brought Dion in and Lamb kept getting that PT/putting up the numbers he was he would be worth at least a late first. Dion cost us a first and probably keeps us from moving up, PLUS made it so we were in the tax this year. I didn't mind the move at the time, but it's royally f*cked us this offseason.

And to add, he's not the one they traded for nothing. I don't doubt Lamb had work ethic issues, but nothing in return is a bummer.
