You can have the best laid plans and all the talent in the world, but if your team/staff/whatever isn't buying in it doesn't mean a damn thing. I'm a big big believer in culture and while I'm OK bringing in a questionable character to an already solid foundation (such as adding Sheed to our '04 team) I don't think we're currently in any sort of position to make it functional.
If I were a team like the Spurs that has that sorta structure in place and think they can prolong their window, then sure. But right now I want no part of him.
I would say that the shedding of Josh Smith really shows this to be true. When the rotten apple was removed from the basket, the team took off. No one can deny that Josh Smith (I hate to admit it), has some talent and ability to help a team win. However, with him in Detroit, it was obviously not working. Josh didn't "buy in" when he was a Piston, he needed the ball in his hands (or so he thought) to be successful.
I'm happy with Andre (work on the FT's big fella), I love his development. I think things will open up even more this season for him as Stan continues to put shooters around him and emphasize him as an inside threat. With Moose gone, Andre will see even more touches and more chances. If he can just get a bit more proficient finishing around the rim and using his massive size and athletic ability to push smaller players around, I think he can really flourish. Dre still plays small inside. I want him to overpower people in the paint, but that can come in time. Last year was the first year where the Pistons force fed him the ball inside. I liked Dre's passing out of the post and his ability to catch lobs. He's a guy that has immense potential if he can just put it all together.
I wouldn't do a Cousins for Drummond, only because Dre has two years less in the league, Drummond grabs 13 boards a night without really trying. He's a beast inside and he has the ability to be a better defender, rim protector than Cousins. Once Drummond gets the touches and starts putting it all together, I think his numbers will be close to Cousins without the headache that comes with getting an ego that accompanies DeMarcus.
Go Pistons !!!!
P.S. Really unsure who the Pistons take in the draft, it's gotta be a SF though, Not sure who I want either. Didn't watch Stanley Johnson or Winslow much (not a big college fan), Hezonja is scary because his sample size is so small and he's not playing against the highest talent levels. I guess we'll have to trust SVG, so far I haven't been disappointed, love the Ersan trade BTW (giving up no assets for a player that's at worse a role player on your team is good IMO)
