I went to sleep and woke up completely favoring Russell so much that anything else including a trade for Cousins would be a massive disappointment.

Ramona Shelburne: Russell Tops Okafor After 2nd Workouts

Post#1625 » by H00PDREAMS » Thu Jun 25, 2015 5:00 pm

Ramona Shellburne has now reported on ESPN's the Herd with Collin Cowherd that the Lakers are seriously considering Russel with the number 2 pick.

Ramona stated at 9:30 AM Pacific standard time that Okafor was in for workouts with the Lakers A few days ago. The initial work out went well. Unfortunately, the second work out did not go so well. Compared to Russell's work out with the Lakers both of which went really well. Ramona also stated that Byron Scott was really high on Russell after the work out.

Collin chimed in and explained that he heard that Jim bus was really high on the work out of Porzingus!?

I personally Have been in the Okafor camp since the NCAA Championship game. However after this new revelation from Ramona, I really have to reevaluate my standing on OKafor. Russell has been saying all the right things. He's been doing all the right things. This guy could have the it factor. This guy could be the Lakers guy at the number 2 pick.

Historically, wasn't The decision to take Kobe made after a stellar work out, after an amazing interview, and realization that this kid was THE GUY?!

Okafor's less than stellar work out would give me pause.

I want us to take Russell so that everyone's mock draft is going to be F'ed. I also want the Knicks to take Kaminsky .

Scott being high on Russell doesn't surprise me, he likes young PGs and Russell has a great combo of shooting and vision which must remind Scott of a young CP3.

Apparently he has 39 inches vertical. AND covers more ground than Kawhi. I want that.

Okafor was the consensus #1 pick 3 years ago when he was still in high school, he was the MVP for the U18 team and the U19 team where he put up the highest PER (since Wilt!), he goes to Duke, wins player of the year in the ACC, becomes an all-american and wins the national championship.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we draft Russell because he could be really good if not great... I'm just worried that we might be passing on a player of Lebron's caliber in Okafor. He has had all the expectations in the world and he has met every single challenge with flying colors - crushed them.

Now a player that has an incredible work out (Towns) and a player who is saying all the right things (Russell) are jumping him in the draft? Just seems odd to me.

Basically, my biggest concern is us overthinking this thing too much... we might have a prodigy dropping right into our laps for no real good reason other than the notoriously moronic T-Wolves are reactively choosing the wrong player and the best 3 point shooting team in the history of the NBA just won an NBA Championship with a 6' 8 center.

I like Okafor...with him, Clarkson, and Randle...gives you an excellent core and we should be able to land a serious wing or two after Kobe's contract is up.

People cite Okafor's defense, but how are teams going to defend him? As for his defense in guarding small ball...go more to zones and half court traps. His defensive rebounding is a strength and if teams are playing small ball, I think that will help his offensive rebounding, as well.

The one thing I do worry about is his free throw shooting...however, that too should be able to be improved, as well. I think he will work on it more than, say, Shaq did.

Russell - Potential to Be Curry Type and the Face of the Franchise

Okafor - Potential to be Al Jefferson and Face of the Lakers?
Okafor needs the ball alot like Shaq.

But the West is built for th Guards.

Russell and KD should be the Face of the Lakers in 2016

with Clarkson and Randle that is a solid Core

So Ding says Okafor's 2nd workout didn't impress. Pincus says Okafor went up against Gabe Olaseni who apparently was able to hold his own.

Ramona also confirms on SportsCenter that Towns HAS worked out with us, it just wasn't reported.
