Latest Ford Mock as of 3pmET. Switched from Looney to Grant. Not good.

You sure that wasn't one of his classic revisions?

I think I'd rather have Grant than Harrell, but neither excites me. It sounds like they don't want to take chances on a youngster who played like one season.

2nd round I want another pick to get Richaun Holmes and take a flier on whoever falls to our late 2nd pick.
Hmm. Didn't mention him last time. I don't think you had him in your top six. What changed your mind on him?
The fact I believe his shooting stroke is legit and 45% from 3pt range wasn't a fluke. His form is very quick, easy & repeatable. He was never too far down on my list. Once I looked really hard at him he seemed like the most sure bet to be a solid role player in the league and be able to help his team on both sides of the ball.

I think all hell is going to break loose, We are probably keeping 19. But no one said anything about not getting another pick, plus things can change one phone call and a trade could happen like that. Let's wait and see.

Agree. One of the main concerns with Anderson is the sample size on his 3pt shooting. He only took around ~100 3s last year, so his improvement hasn't been substantiated in that department unless you dig a bit deeper.
A few important notes:
-He worked with a shooting coach over the offseason last year, so there is ostensibly legitimate causality to his 3pt improvement
-There is anecdotal evidence that he was an amazing 3pt shooter in practice and warmups at UVA this past year
-He definitely was a great 3pt shooter at the combine and other various workouts
All that said, if you conclude that his improved 3pt shooting is legitimate and sustainable, he should be taken higher than he's projected 100% of the time, and the Wizards should almost definitely take him if available.

If decker falls to us I'm taking him, he could turn into david lee with a better shot.
Should we trust our medical staff? <trying to keep a straight face>
What is the injury issue exactly? Wiz probably just have a sheet of paper on him, they probably didn't interview him at the combine.
Ankle injury apparently.
If Looney's hip needs surgery and he is going to miss the season, I don't want him at 19. That's the worst way a player can start their career here. Similarly wary about WCS but I'd be much more inclined to take him. His upside is much higher to outweigh the risk.

Agree. As the draft is finally upon us, Anderson is the guy I hope they call at 19. Athletic, physically ready, NBA 3pt range now, can defend 3 positions, solid character and work ethic.
49 I am hoping to hear Dez Wells.
Keeping expectations on who looks to be available at those picks... if they do somehow acquire another pick in the late 1st or early 2nd I hope it's for Richaun Holmes.

This is that time of year when other GM's are playing chess while Ernie is content playing checkers, he doesn't have the assests to do much else.

I really dont like Martin and i think i found a player that he reminds me of. Back in 2010 we made a trade up to 23 to grab Booker. At the time, i knew we were looking for a 3/4 hybrid and thought the guy taken after him was Intriguing: Damion James from Texas.
James was a little bigger/longer than Booker and a more skilled player who i thought could make it as a 3. James never made it as a tweener and Martin has a lot of the same game. Even their stats are very similar.
So no to Damion James at 19 for me.

Grant is honestly a home run for a pick in this range with ernie selecting though
he's not my ideal choice, but again, i'd be ecstatic given ernie

Re: 2015 Draft Thread - Part 1
I know this isn't the Politics thread, but I'm feeling a little religious...
Please, God, talk to EFG.
If we're lucky and Portis is there, just take him and be happy, and take BPA at 49. Better yet, use the TPEs to swallow some cap space for someone and move up (i.e., OKC and Houston...)
Or take Justin Anderson and make a move to grab Richaun Holmes.
Just avoid any player who can't shoot: Harrell, Wright, RJ-H, Oubre, Grant...
The Wiz already have a somewhat competent back-up point guard for next year, and Satoransky is still on the hook for next offseason. Drafting for a back-up is ridiculous. Please, please, please draft a player that you think will break out -- sooner or later. I just don't see that with Grant. I'm not sold on Looney, either. Plus, he's 19-year old with a hip issue. He's likely still growing and that could be serious.
Amen.

Ernie liking Harrell & Martin fits his MO of liking the guys most likely to bust. If Grant is the alternative, he is a homerun considering Ernie's history.

Re: 2015 Draft Thread - Part 1
Count-down to melt-down!
Who do I want at #19...? I assume no trade up will happen, and I assume that the 1st 18 will go mas o menos as DR has them (i.e. Portis, Kaminsky, etc. all gone):
1. Kevon Looney -- this kid can be an outstanding NBA player. Potential to be a star. Now... DR has dropped him to #27, and I can't know the extent of his hip problem. So that's a wild card. Otherwise... grab him.
2. Grant, Dekker, Wright, Hunter...? Who the H knows? I have problems w/ all of them, yet each of them has certainly shown some extremely good stuff. If Looney is gone, and no one I like more from higher on the DR list (viz. Oubre) has dropped, and we take one of them -- it's not great, but....
3. Try to trade down. Please trade down, if Looney isn't there -- and if there's a trading partner. Lets grab 1 or 2 extra prospects to lower our risk.
