How is his skillset not redundant with Hawes on the roster? Why the hell did we trade for Hawes if we were targeting Frank in the draft?

With the exception of Batum and occasionally Lamb none of those guys play NBA level defense. I know defense isn't our problem, but if we lose Biz on top of all the other changes we've made it quickly will be. At least we should finally be able to hit some 3 pointers, I don't even think Clifford can screw that up with the amount of shooters we added to the roster.

We play Al Jefferson. We played Gary Neal and Mo Williams. We played Marvin Williams and Maxiel.

We had an above average defense in a cluter**** of a season still. Hawes isn't worse than Al. Frank actually did a decent job against 4 guys in the top 10 inside. I'm really not worried about defense. Unless we lose Biz and Zeller at the same time somehow.

Posted this in the other thread but Kaminsky had a DTrg of 92.6 last year which is actually pretty good. Winslow's was 92.8

Let em know.

Frank is what Cho dreamed Zeller could be. Hawes is much more slow footed than Kaminsky.

Guys I think many of you will regret being this hard on Kaminsky. He's 7ft tall, he isnt the athlete Cody is, but he's tougher, a better shooter, a more skilled overall offensive player, and he'll be a matchup problem at least on the offensive end for teams who play small. Kaminsky is a smart player, he stayed all four years in school so he's gained playing experience and he's a little stronger than most rookies.

He will stretch the floor in ways Cody couldnt, he will help us on the boards being that he's 7ft tall, his outside shooting will allow Kemba and big Al to have room to operate. He's gonna be able to shoot over smaller forwards and post them up inside. He has good passing ability, he can dribble the ball and get to the rim. I think Kaminsky will be a good player for us. I think we got a good player at a position we needed filled. Marv was a small forward playing PF and he hurt us on the boards and defensively, Frank will be a upgrade.

Al had the best defensive rating on the team in his first season here... Means nothing.

Context is everything.

Either way, Kaminsky held his own and then some against 4 other bigs taken in the lottery. His defense isn't some massive liability.

Its fun to hate on the big white guy, and I won't try and stop anyone, but he DOES fit here. Winslow... I was only alarmed when SVG of all people passed on him. That set off all kinds of alarms.

I hope you're right. A Frank/Biz and Zeller/Hawes frontcourt rotation could be interesting if Kaminsky can prove himself to not be a complete sieve defensively. Speed and agility training should be all he does this summer.

Hawes is not nearly as mobile. Hawes can stretch the floor and he has a little inside game, but Frank is a more skilled more mobile big. Frank will be used as the pick and pop big for Kemba, Kemba is gonna get a ton of assists passing to Kaminsky and Al. This will be because Frank will pick and pop all day, and he's smart enough to know when to roll to the rim. We are going to have more 3 point shots at least attempted due to Frank, big Al will have space to work inside, defensively Frank scares the hell out of me, but hopefully with MKG and playing alongside Biz and or Cody, they can make up for his lapses.

I'm eager to see Frank and Kemba playing together, I have a feeling Kemba's quickness will leave Frank open for alot of jumpers that he should be able to knock down.

This guy, I'm telling you. He's something. He is just swell. He can dribble, he can reach things from the top shelf. He can buy beer legally I think. This is a great pick. I'm surprised that we were able to get him without trading up, I know Cho was sweating bullets.

He was thinking about trading up to make sure the Knicks don't take him. It's hilarious that Cho really do get attached to a player and it's no letting go until he draft him.

Yeah I think there was other players who may have been better, but for our team I think we filled a need.

Kaminsky damn sure wasn't BPA like Cho like to lead on as what he'll draft but Kaminsky is a good fit and will finally allow us to stop drafting PFs for the next 3 years.

"Flat Out Boring": The Frank Kaminsky Thread

Post#179 » by yosemiteben » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:09 am

Can someone explain why having multiple bigs who are redundant by being able to do work in the paint and shoot outside is a problem?

Like isn't this what we've been asking for? Better, more dynamic offense with better outside shooting?

I don't get the "redundancy" argument.
