How can you "blow" a pick on one of the best low post prospects in the last 20 years? Who the hell are the Sixers to get picky on talent? I'm sorry, but are Noel and Embiid proven superstars in this league yet? What if Noel regresses as a sophmore? What if Embiid can't play, or plays but gets hurt again. They got arguably the best player in the draft at #3.
Russell was gone, and unless you think Mudiay is the next Russell Westbrook(hint: he's not) there was no wing or guard savior.
Oh yeah, I'm the one jumping the gun here. Okafor who has yet to play an NBA game is now an amazing player and Mudiay is a a bust because he isn't the next Westbook. You're clueless bro.
News Flash: This isn't the 1980s. Okafor isn't nearly athletic or dominant enough to be this elite big that he is projected to be. Your center needs to be able to defend the paint, protect the rim, sometimes even space the floor. Okafor is trash at all of these. But he did a few flashy post moves against white guys who walked onto their college team so it's all good.
Oh yeah and Embiid might be hurt. Awesome. Now we can see the trainwreck that is Noel/Okafor. Who needs floor spacing? Rim protection from their center? Not the perpetually tanking Sixers.
This is Tank 3.0. Good thing we have all those established perimeter players and a point guard to help our bigs develop. Oh wait....
I said he is an elite "prospect" that isn't jumping the gun. I also didn't say Mudiay is a bust. You are acting like a child by putting words in my mouth.
You don't need to be ultra athletic to succeed in the NBA as a big. He has amazing low post moves, and touch, and he's only 19. Jeez.
He was the BPA and they took the best player. What great perimeter guys did we miss out on?
Why do you bother. As soon as he said he'd take NN over Okafor that should clue you in to what you are dealing with.

Re: Welcome Okafor
I love the pick... we got BPA... we got Embiid assurance... we got a prospect who is widely argued to be the best in his draft class... a BEAST in the post, been a winner throughout at every level. I'm hyped! Can't wait, I feel Hinkie will be pulling some moves, maybe salary dumps & such, or be involved as the third wheels in other trades, I feel we'll be bringing in some new additions soon. Today was a good day. Until the franchise has been established you continue to go for BPA.. Embiid has yet to play a game so I don't see why some are so opposed to this pick... if Embiid does come back strong... we got the best possible dilemma to have, you can trade & make moves to fit once the 'Franchise' (whoever that may end up being) hits the floor, & shown his stuff.

Love the pick, Nerlens could be on the move. YOU DONT TRADE EMBIID WITHOUT SEEING HIM PLAY.

Plus like it's been said before, you probably wouldn't get sufficient value for him right now, but yes I want to keep him personally. I'm excited about Jah, great pick arguably best prospect in the draft again.

Re: Welcome Okafor
You don't trade Noel period because Embiid and Okafor can't play together for long stretches. The end game has to either be Noel/Embiid or Noel/Okafor. We will find out the answer in a year.

Re: Welcome Okafor
Noel is the one who stays safe.
Embiid would break himself guarding 4s longterm and Jah can barely guard centers. I think Embiid is the one to move with his injury history and alleged poor attitude. Jah is a robot.
and even then...Noel and Jah is a questionable fit as Noel gets taken away from the rim on defense.

disagree completely, Embiid will not be moved before he plays a game, and he has the most potential/is the best prospect of the 3, ive heard the foot issues are completely blown out of proportion and he will be ready by the 1st game.

Re: Welcome Okafor
I just think it is stupid to take a guy you expect to move..
Jah nor Joel's stock will high whenever we do decide to move them...because teams will know we have too.

Reminds me of the Jazz's log jam, you look at their team now and it seems like they never got fair value for trading their bigs.

Something for Sixers fans to monitor, if the NBA prevents "hack-a-Shaq," then big men with poor free throw ability become more valuable.

I don't look at it like that. If we trade one of them, it will be because the other team has a star they need to trade. Either because that player is threatening to walk via free agency, or has become disgruntled. If so, they will only care about getting the best package back in return. If the Sixers give them the best package, that's all that matters.

Re: Welcome Okafor
Exactly. They had forced Kanter to shoot 3s and **** just to fit in.
AND they were alledgedly still looking into moving Favors because he and Gobert are still questionable.'
I don't see a happy ending for one of our bigs
In theory , you look at the Lakers of old, the Bulls this past year, The Spurs forever and the Grizzlies.
Two of our bigs need to extend their range ala the Gasols.

Re: Welcome Okafor
I was expecting us to do some trades, yeah I even expect Noel to get traded for the 4th or 7th plus another future first.
Anyway, I like Jahlil. I know he got a lot of criticisms, and it might have some effect on your sentiment for him. But I recommend you watch him play.
He's probably the prospect with the highest probability to be a franchise player in the draft, with his ability to dominate the game WITH VOLUME (that's difference between Jah vs Towns or biid).
I'm not a guy who is blinded by my own perceptions. But I think Russell maybe is the real deal. I also don't think Hinkie is that high on Mudiay, or else I would expect him to EASILY trade with the Nuggets. Knicks or the Kings would have atleast selected him. But I do still think that he's a great prospect.
I really love jahlil from the talent/value standpoint. But I just hate it for the "fit." Teams are trying to find a way to win championships without a center. What more when you have two centers on the court. Definitely, atleast one of them has got to be traded.
The good news is that, all three of them has the chance to be special. That separates them from the Jazz's situation. Wherein, things would have been much different if Kanter or Favors were franchise/star caliber bigs and it might have allowed them to trade for a star backcourt player.
For now, I expect Jahlil to Wilt Chamberlain his way in the summerleague. BB trying to find a system to showcase our bigs in the regular season. It's not that hard with even a team of Jahlil with a bunch of 3 and D guys can already do some damage on paper.
Eventually one of them gets traded. Who knows, maybe a superstar swingman might ask for a sign and trade for one of our championship caliber big.

Re: Welcome Okafor
I don't think there is much doubt that at least 1 gets moved but no need to panic trade. Let it play out and see who shines. Obviously Embiid is the wildcard. It would be great to be able to pencil in our athletic 2 way freak at center but unfortunately we just cannot at the moment. So, we go with Okafor and Noel in all likelihood and we wait on the big lottery ticket as he has much more potential trade value to us than his actual current trade value.

Re: Welcome Okafor
Jahlil is actually a steal. We're lucky Lakers are looking to add a either LMA, Gasol or Love, so they opted for Russell. But all things equal, I'm sure Jahlil is there running for the number overall spot in this year's draft. He is the closest thing to the word "dominant" in this year's draft.
